I was beyond excited for Vanini to open in Zurich. As possibly the biggest fan and connoisseur of fine gelato, I was always on the hunt in Zurich of modern Italian gelato same as you would find nowadays on the super hyped gelaterias of Milan , and being a fan of Vanini that I tried both in Lugano and In Vienna, I was over the moon for them to open in Zurich. I went to their Zurich store and ordered a 500g box, which is clearly priced on their menu for 22 CHF. What really threw me off, is that at the counter I was asked for 25 CHF instead of 22. When checking why was this the new price, I was told that it was because unintentionally they put 50g more ( which is not even half a scoop for clearer understanding of how much 50g in gelato is). I would normally complain cause that cost should never transferred to your customer, which pays for the box. It is assumed and implied that these boxes will have "more or less" 500g since we humans are not robotic scales, so I really don't understand why I am the one paying the extra cost. In any other gelateria this would never happen or at least in all my hundreds of gelato boxes ordered anywhere in Europe, I was never charged that way. I feel sorry writing this review as normally I would face directly the service provider if I am not satisfied with what I am paying for, but I only realized how disappointing it was after I was out of the store since it's just another proof that the tendency of every service in Zurich is always to instead of matching the insane high prices with an exceptional service, as usual, clients in Zurich has to pay the highest prices of the continent, only to receive the least...
Read moreGood ice cream. Here’s my honest review of the service - I bought 6 packets of cioccolato fresco at $28.70 Swiss franc each (172.20 in total). They put it in a big paper bag. I asked them to give me 6 small paper bags because these were meant as gifts. They said they can only give me 3 small paper bags because the big paper bag costs $4. So I took 6 paper bags and dumped the packets in my tote bag. I also bought chocolate from Laderach, they have no qualms about giving me paper bags because they know that I’m marketing their brand and promoting it for them when I present the chocolate in their paper bags as gifts to my clients. If your big paper bag costs $4 perhaps you should start sourcing for cheaper alternatives or be more generous towards your customers. First and last time going...
