Nice little hotel in the heart of the Old Town in Zürich where there are lots of restaurants and shops, and it is also only a short walk from Zürich central station and tram stops. It sits above a restaurant of the same name. Recommended for couples only as the rooms are very small.
The Highlights: the rooms are very clean upon check in, and despite being small, has the basic necessities: bed, air conditioning, mini fridge, kettle, Closet, TV, hot water, towels, etc. It's also non-smoking which is really appreciated, considering how much people seem to smoke here in Zürich. Another highlight is that it has a lift (elevator) that fits 4 people with no luggage, or 2 people with 2 suitcases The continental breakfast included in the room has two kinds of bread, two kinds of cold cuts, some fruit, jams, three kinds of cheeses, juices, coffee and tea - enough to fuel up for the morning until lunch time. -Although the hotel is in the heart of the Old Town with bars and restaurants right below it, the sound proofing of the windows is pretty good as we couldn't hear the outside world once we've shut them properly.
What can be improved: Customer service leaves much to be desired. The people serving in the morning don't seem to want to host people at all as he didn't want to interact with any guest, save to serve us coffee or tea. This is observed both days we had breakfast there. Our room also wasn't cleaned. Not sure what the custom here in Switzerland is, but when we returned to our room after our second day, we found that our bed wasn't turned over, the dirty towel on the floor was hung up against the towels we wanted to reuse, the complimentary drinking water was not replaced. The only things done were opening the window to let air in and the trash had been taken out. If not for those, we wouldn't have known someone was in our room. The pillows were very flat and if you folded them, they would stay folded (which means they are expired and should be replaced). This is minor if it doesn't bother you, or course. as mentioned, the room is very small so be mindful of that if you are planning to bring large suitcases for your trip as there's little room to place them in.
Overall, I would only recommend this hotel for staying in Zürich for its location and value for money and not for any...
Read moreMy recent dining experience at Steakhouse Old Town in Zurich was exceptional, and I cannot recommend it enough. From the moment I arrived, I was greeted warmly by the staff and seated in the lovely outside seating area, which offered a charming ambiance with a view of the bustling Old Town streets.
I had the pleasure of trying the Grilled Whole Seabass with Honey Dill Mustard Sauce paired with fragrant Jasmine Rice, and it was a culinary delight. The seabass was perfectly cooked, flaky, and moist with a delightful char from the grill. The honey-dill-mustard sauce perfectly balanced sweet and tangy flavors that complemented the fish beautifully. Each bite was a burst of deliciousness that left me wanting more.
Not only was the food exceptional, but the service was also impeccable. The staff was attentive and knowledgeable and went above and beyond to ensure that my dining experience was nothing short of perfect. I felt well taken care of throughout the meal, and their friendly demeanor added to the overall enjoyment of the evening.
The Steakhouse Old Town in Zurich exceeded all my expectations. The combination of delectable food, outstanding service, and a charming atmosphere made it a memorable dining experience I will cherish. Whether you're a local or a visitor to Zurich, I highly recommend treating yourself to a meal at Steakhouse Old Town for a true...
Read moreThis review is about the Steakhouse, not the hotel. I rarely leave reviews but feel this one is necessary.
Honestly the worst steak I’ve ever had. To be fair, we ordered one Swiss ribeye and one US T-bone (for comparison). Don’t fall for this scam. Both were of the same extremely poor quality… completely inedible. Extremely tough and un-chewable. Like eating a rubber car tire, so hard and completely flavorless. Seriously, I’m not exaggerating. The meat must’ve come from the oldest/cheapest cow they could find. Perhaps a one-week-old carcass they found in a field somewhere. We both could not finish our steaks (see pics attached). We were afraid of breaking our teeth. The spinach vegetable dish was also horrible! Soggy and very very salty. I guess that’s their solution in trying to add flavor🤷🏻♂️
When paying our bill the arrogant waiter asked us how everything was and I mentioned the bad steak quality. He didn’t seem to care. In fact he still asked for a tip 😂 No apology, nothing.
Please do yourself a favor and avoid this place at all cost. Seriously. All the negative reviews here are correct. Trust me. There are plenty of other very nice restaurants right next door (this street has many options). Go there instead. We had a great time in Switzerland with great food and service everywhere, we loved Switzerland, but NOT the Steakhouse...
