I've tried a few aerial studios in Taipei now, and I think each one has their own unique styles and areas of strength that will make them appeal to different people depending on their learning style. But in my opinion, especially as a beginner, Kathy is BY FAR the most beginner friendly teacher I've had the pleasure of working with. That's not to say she's easy - that's to say that she explains things in a very step by step way, with careful attention to the small details that beginners don't even know to know about (ie: "make sure your thumb is turned this way" "make sure to grab the hoop like this, not this"), in a way that is digestible and easy to grasp, and with a focus on safety. She structures her class in a way that you know she is always keeping a watchful eye on each student. I truly truly truly recommend her for anyone starting out on aerials from scratch - even if you aren't looking to do hoop as your primary apparatus, I think Hangout's 6 week intro hoop course is a great foundational class for any aerial apparatus you want to learn in the future.
Beyond Kathy's class, every class I've taken at Hangout has been a joy with similar attention to detail and safety and teaching in a rigorous yet step by step process. Shoutout to my excellent beginner silks teacher Nicole, who is patient and encouraging, and explains things in a step by step manner and helps us do a ton of conditioning, even while keeping it challenging for us, and Lydia, who ive taken aerial yoga with and is also very very helpful when you're just getting used to the apparatus. All the teachers I think have been trained to be really detail oriented and intentional, and thus overall it feels like a very well organized and safe environment to learn aerials.
Maybe the only "con" I can think of is I wish I didn't have to fight to enroll in the classes I want to sign up for each week haha. But goes to show how popular they are. Also, there's only two silks classes each week (one for beginners, one intermediate) and the ceiling is not super high for more advanced silks. But that's not really a deal breaker for me.
Hangout is the studio I recommend to all beginners. I wrote this review bc I've had enough ppl ask me where I recommend getting started and I 100% recommend Hangout for this! (But they also have tons of more intermediate classes too that seem challenging and fun - just saying this is a great studio for anyone looking to start from scratch!)
P.s. some of the instructors speak pretty good English so this is also a good studio option for English...
Read moreAttended a beginner’s aerial silks class with LeLe. She was really great at explaining all the movements needed to complete a pose and led a wonderful class. My mom also attended with me (and she’s 60) and was able to keep up with the class very comfortably. LeLe even did a Lunar New Year special where she gave us time at the end of class to take pictures in the poses we learned during class! I had so much fun and would come back again!
Please note the studio is small. For the aerial silks class we fit about 6 of us, including the instructor. I quite liked this setting, however, because it allowed the instructor to pay attention to all of us and prevent any injuries...
