In the heart of Turkey’s Sanliurfa old town lies the Lake of Abraham (or Pool of Sacred Fish) in the courtyard of the the Halil-ur-Rahman mosque. A series of archways line three sides of the long, narrow lake whose blue-green hues, in tandem with the adjacent verdant gardens and centuries-old plane and willow trees, contribute to the oasis-like atmosphere of the ancient site. A footpath lining the pool’s southern edge allows visitors a closer look at the water’s famous inhabitants- hundreds of carp of legendary origin. The pool is thought to be the site where Abraham was thrown into the fire by Nimrod and is a religious destination for thousands each year. As for the historic Halil-ur-Rahman Mosque that is part of the Balıklıgöl complex, due to its central role in the legend of Abraham, it has become one of the most important religious sites in the area, along with the cave of Abraham’s birth. تشتهر شانلي أورفا بأماكن تاريخية وسياحية مميزة، وهناك معالم بارزة ومميزة بالمدينة أشهرها وأهمها  بحيرة الأسماك (بركة إبراهيم )  التي يُعتقد أن النمرود أشعل فيها النيران وأمر بإلقاء نبي الله إبراهيم عليه السلام فيها، قبل أن يأتي الأمر الإلهي لتتحول النيران إلى مياه، ويتحول الحطب إلى أسماك . فتُعرف بأنها أكبر" حوض أسماك طبيعي في العالم " وتتمتع بأهمية دينية كبيرة بالنسبة للديانات السماوية حيث يُقال أنّ محاولة النمرود لحرق سيدنا إبراهيم عليه السلام، تمت في هذه المنطقة، وعندما أمر الله تعالى النار لتكون بردا وسلاما على إبراهيم، تحولت النار إلى هذه البحيرة، وحطبها إلى اسماك ويقال أن من يلمس هذه الأسماك يصاب بالأذى . ويقف عندها السياح والزوار، ويتأملوا بها، وتمر ساعات وهم يرمون الطعام لأسماك البحيرة وهو ما يجعلها محط اهتمام السيّاح. أعداد كبيرة من الأسماك تعيش في هذه البحيرة التي يمكن للزوّار الاستمتاع أيضًا بمشاهدتها من فوق قلعة "شانلي أورفة" في صورة خيالية مُدهشة برفقة فنجان من القهوة أو الشاي بالإضافة لوجود المساجد والمغارة ومن آثارها متحف أورفا كل من زار هذا المكان أحبه ويتمنى العودة له من جديد روحانية المكان تبعث للنفس الطمأنينة والراحة النفسية والسكينة...
