I'm sure that the pub is lovely, but as a gig venue, it needs improving. Access for disabled people is difficult if you can walk & impossible if you need a mobility aid. Even the ladies' toilet has steps, which are difficult to negotiate. During the gig, we were given seats, but I had people tripping over my legs & walking stick. Our seats were put next to the speakers, but we had no room & could not see anything. Drinks were served in plastic pots that I could not hold safely, because they were so flimsy. I had to ask bar staff for a straw in order to drink. This fell apart after only 15 minutes. The stairs to the performance room are very steep & narrow. They do provide carer passes, but I had to ask staff to get the seats I had booked. When the music started, the people dancing made the floor flex & bounce to a degree that I felt unsafe trying to stand up. Overall all, this experience soured an otherwise beautiful gig. As a disabled music fan, I would ask that bands avoid this venue. The building is old & planning permission is no doubt complicated, but this venue has awful disabled access & as a disabled person with minor impediments, I felt excluded at every stage. The easiest step they could take would be to use better plastic cups. The bar staff were friendly, but perplexed when confronted by someone who couldn't life...
Read moreA night to be cherished and a soup to be remembered. We expected a great evening, daily J were a beautiful bunch of lovely chaps and the venue was crammed full of positive energy. But there was more, oh so so much more - my memory either cloudy now from the booze or the sheer shock of what's to follow that I can't remember how the glimmering Tupperware box made it in front of me. It was Eva's potato and leak soup - the perfect balance of flavours has been puzzling my mind all day as well as the late addition of some cold milk added to the glorious situation which I'd never once thought of before but now there won't be a soup that passes me by that I don't milk in.
I think the venue should honor such a magnificent soup by dedicating a new soup bar called 'Eva's soup' where it's delivered through the beer taps - I predict roughly a 15% increase in global happiness when complete.
Sometimes in life, it's not the destination, it's the soup you...
Read moreThe Louisiana is an intimate venue above a pub. The pub is a decent size with plenty of tables and well presented. On my visit I found the staff friendly didn't have to wait long to get served. I did get my drink in a plastic cup, but didn't bother me. The venue is accessed up a winding staircase; the room itself seems pretty small but during the gig there was plenty of room for the 140ish crowd. The stage is about knee high off the floor, so being about 8 people from the front there was a pretty decent view of the band. The lighting and backdrop simple but effective; great sound system, vocals a bit distorted at times, but you want it turned up to 11 to enjoy it! Had a brilliant gig courtesy of simplylove. Would not hesitate to go back on...
