With majority of people voting for Mexican, I went to a Mexican restaurant right in the centre of the city. With over 4.6 stars out of 5 on google, I had a very good expectation from the restaurant and food obviously. The restaurant is built in one of the cargos near the harbour-side and it is perfect for summers if you fancy eating outside on the balcony. I chose to sit inside though but the vibes were no less there. What I ordered - Pic 1 - Cantina Classic Salsas with Tortilla Chips. Pic 2 - Slow Braised Chicken Tacos. And obviously a pint of beer in summer is must. 🍺 Before going to any of the restaurants, I look for the food menu and the chicken tacos was on my list to try. And the other one was recommended by the person serving me food there. She was spot on with her suggestion, as the chips complimented my beer very well. I’ve tried these salsas and out of those 3, I really like Pico De Gallo. Other two were okay and one of them were too spicy to have. Coming to the main dish of the restaurant- Tacos. 🌮 As mentioned in the name, it was a slow braised chicken wrapped in shells with salads. Taco shells looked fresh and felt like it is a home made ones. Chicken on the other side had an amazing taste. It was juicy as well as boiled exactly it should be. It was spicy which bothered a little but I won’t mind having it another time. All in all, it was a nice experience to visit the restaurant with a cool vibe and balcony outside. Not to forget, they do serve water in a recycled tequila bottle which I have never seen before. Great initiative! ❤️ Place - @cargocantina

I decided to give Cargo another go this evening after having tried a burrito a month or so back which I was slightly underwhelmed with. We picked Cargo as we were craving tacos and we live on whapping wharf. Upon arriving to collect I was told it would be 5 more minutes (despite getting notified it was ready a few mins prior). Whilst I waited it started to get very busy and it felt like there was a complete disregard to any Covid safety measures. It was cramped and whilst I was waiting the waitress brought another table out and didn’t ask me to move but rather pushed it in my direction. Once the food was finally ready I took it back to my flat which is around 1 minute walk away. The tacos were soggy and not hot. The portion size was extremely small. For £7 I got a tiny pot of chicken, no beans or other fillings. I had 3 medium filled tacos and for my 4th was left with the amount pictured in the pot… It’s a real shame because the chicken and flavours were themselves lovely, but the overall value and customer service experience left much to be desired.

This was the spot we chose for our first night in Bristol. Since it was a cold evening, we opted to sit indoors—but if the weather allows, I’d definitely recommend grabbing a table outside. The indoor space felt quite cramped, a bit hectic, and the strong smell of food hanging in the air didn’t help much. That said, the service was genuinely impressive—efficient and friendly. As for the food—it did not disappoint. If you spot the beef quesabirria on the menu, don’t even think twice—order it. It’s an absolute must. To go with it, both the classic and loaded nachos are solid choices. We tried both (yes, both!), and honestly, that might be the move. But the real surprise of the evening? The margarita. Made with tequila, it completely exceeded our expectations. We didn’t think it would be that good—but it was hands down one of the best we’ve ever had. If it were possible, we would’ve happily ordered it by the gallon. Don’t miss it.

Asked about allergens before we waited 20 minutes outside for a table with my heavily pregnant partner. They assured us they could cater for both gluten and sulphite allergies.

After a long wait we sat down ordered two drinks. Pregnant partner ordered an alcohol free beer and staff instead served her an alcoholic one which is completely unacceptable.

When we came to order, they then informed us that nothing on the menu was suitable for a sulphite allergy and we couldn’t actually eat there at all!

So we waited nearly 40 minutes in total to be told we couldn’t eat at this restaurant. So we needed to go somewhere else to eat. My pregnant partner was already hungry before we waited 40 minutes to be served.

Then to make matters worse, the guy serving us (who claimed to be the manager/owner) and was extremely unprofessional. Told us essentially tough luck and here is the bill for the drinks… we wouldn’t have waited 40 minutes and sat down at all if your staff didn’t tell us it was ok for our allergies. You should be hugely ashamed for your service today. We won’t be returning. Allergens should be at the forefront of your business followed by decency and customer service. Today none of these things happened.

Because your response has purposefully tried to manipulate the narrative of our visit, I would like to clarify; The only bad behaviour came from the manager, he was extremely rude and abusive in how he spoke to us and the language he used. And clearly this restaurant instead of taking this feedback seriously has tried to deflect the narrative instead of taking responsibility for the failings detailed.

This is not a safe place to eat if you have...

Found this place one sunny afternoon as we fancied a drink. The staff were lovely, very knowledgeable about the drinks, let me try the orange wine which was lovely! After seeing and smelling the food coming out we decided to order food too. A different member of the team took our food order, she too was very lovely and also knowledgeable about the menu. I had the trout tacos and my husband had the pork tacos, both amazing! Highly recommend the black beans, could easily have eaten a trough of those! Rude not to try a margarita, the hibiscus one was lush! We have only given 3 stars as our visit was tainted by the manager carrying out a performance review with one of the team who had served us right in the middle of the restaurant. He was very loud and also didn’t seem to have anything positive to say, which was odd given that the member of team had been amazing when serving us. Totally unprofessional to carry out a review in public, felt mortified for the team member. We made a point of thanking her for her service as we left. Unsure as to whether we would return while this manager is still running the place which is a shame because the food, drinks and service from his team...
