This place was the best value I could find in Cheltenham, just £29 for a decent single room with comfortable bed, plenty of space, wardrobe, cupboard and drawers. It was very handy for the Town Hall where I went to a concert. The building is a huge old Regency house, quite shabby but clean, with very large rooms and lots of staircases. The lady at reception was very pleasant when I arrived and showed me right up to the top of the house, but the room she had intended for me was occupied by pigeons, which come in if people leave the windows open. So I got another room and remembered to just open the windows a crack! There was a bathroom near my room on the same floor, which had male and female toilet cubicles and showers. Unfortunately there were no private cubicles with washbasins, so if you just wanted a quick wash, you had to stand at a row of large basins with no plugs and with push-top taps which sent cacades of water all over you! Being a woman I found this annoying, as I didn't want a shower both night and morning, so I took a chance on stripping my top off to wash when nobody was around!||||There was an excellent very large kitchen, well supplied with crockery, cutlery and basic food supplies such as tea, coffee, sugar, jam, bread and milk. There was a fridge with food you could help yourself to, and another fridge for people to keep their own food in. I was able to have a filling breakfast of cereal, toast and tea in the morning. Adjoining the kitchen was a big sitting-room with comfortable chairs and a large TV, ideal for relaxing and chatting to other guests. Altogether I enjoyed my stay, and will definitely go there again next time I need to stay...

Read moreThis YMCA is very central, clean and cheap, with immaculate wifi. You need to take a towel (or rent one), and they have that nasty cheap toilet roll! Nonetheless it's well worth using. It might be less pleasant when very full, as there is not that many showers etc and noise does travel round the building, plus we had one room that smelt of feet and one where the radiator could not be turned off completely. But the staff were great and it was just what we needed for a last minute stop over! Strict checking in though - 3pm-8 and then by ten in the morning...
