The Whiskey Shop on Victoria Street is an absolute must for whiskey enthusiasts visiting Edinburgh. This boutique excels in offering an array of unique, high-end whiskeys, with a special focus on single cask varieties. While the prices reflect the premium selection, the quality is unparalleled, and tastings are available to help you choose your perfect whiskey. They also stock smaller bottles for those looking for high-quality options without the full commitment. The highlight was discovering a whiskey from our home state of Tennessee, a testament to their diverse and thoughtful selection. The staff, particularly the woman who assisted us, was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, expertly navigating us through their extensive range based on our preferences. For an authentic and personal whiskey buying experience, I highly recommend The Whiskey Shop. Whether you are a seasoned connoisseur or a curious newcomer, you will find something to love here.

To call this a “retail shop” is a real disservice. The guys working there are knowledgeable and happy to take time to find a unique whisky that suits your palate. Many of the bottles are available to taste and if you’ll take the time to learn they’ll happily take the time to explain the process and what makes so many of their bottles extremely unique. My advice is to take a little time, listen to the story and spend a few extra bucks to get something that you wouldn't otherwise be able to buy anywhere else in the world. Big thank you to the great staff for spending a few minutes walking me through the The Whisky Shop approach to one-off bottlings, barell aged special casks and for sharing an overall special whisky experience.

Not a whole lot of inventory. There is no way to tell if the prices are good or bad since the whiskies are one of a kind ( I think that is on purpose) The descriptions I think mean little (see attached pictures for example). They are meant to just sound good but don't help you decide. I think they are targeting tourists who don't know what to buy and are just looking for gifts and souvenirs. Try some online stores (maybe Amazon?)

I went there looking to bring home several different types of Scotch Whisky and I could not have imagined a better outcome. We were helped out by Craig, who was the most knowledgable person on Scotch that I could have imagined. He expertly suggested whiskies that suited our particular tastes and preferences and he was more than willing to let us sample the available bottles for reference. We ended up staying close to an hour past closing, despite our repeated offers to come back the next day, he insisted on helping us until we had found exactly what we were looking for. I had visited different whisky shops around Edinburgh throughout the day and I can say from experience that no other venue compares to The Whisky Shop and its staff. If you want to buy a whisky that you could likely get in America then by all means explore other shops, but if you want to leave Scotland with a truly unique whisky, catered to your taste's and something that you will never find anywhere else, this is where you need to go. In my opinion, an absolutely essential stop...

Minnie was so helpful and knowledgable. We walked in as we noticed what looked like independent/hand bottled whiskies in their window. This is a particular whisky shop I would highly recommend stopping by as you can see and sample some independent casks which they have in the shop. Once they're gone, they're gone. So chances are, when you come back, there is a different whisky in their barrel. They also carry a wide variety of other distilleries, whiskey drinking glasses and flasks. However, the independent one-off casks is definitely the big reason why you should come! and also to chat with some really knowledgable and fantastic staff. Minnie took the time to get to know what whiskies I have tried, liked/disliked etc and gave some fantastic recommendations. We will...
