Went in around 3pm on 6th September. We had a few drinks which were all good. However, we ordered two more pints, one was ready quickly and the other took a while to arrive. My dad saw a pint ready at the bar so asked a member of staff if that was his drink, the man behind the bar said ‘I think so yes’, so my dad took it back to the table. Once my dad had a few sips of the drink, a woman (who we believe was in charge and called Monroe. She was short with brown hair and was wearing a gorillaz tshirt) that day came over and told him ‘not to take drinks from the bar again’. My dad tried to explain that the man behind the bar told him it was most likely his drink, however she would not listen and again reprimanded him like a child, repeating that he should not have done it whilst waving her finger. She took the drink off my dad, and then returned with a fresh drink, which we believe was the same type she had taken, in a different glass. The man who had said he thought the drink was my dad’s, and another lady then came over to apologise, we did not catch their names but they were both lovely members of staff. Afterwards we heard the lady that was rude, telling the staff off in front of everyone which was embarrassing, telling them not to “question her authority”. Afterwards I went to speak to the woman in charge about an unrelated matter and she looked at me and walked off. Before we left, my dad went over to the woman again to tell him that she ruined our afternoon out but she just said ‘sorry you feel that way’, which is not a proper apology. She had plenty of opportunities to make the situation right, but instead kept discussing us with the other female members of staff. Just wanted to say again, the drinks and other members of staff...
Read moreDisgrace of a pub, made to feel extremely uncomfortable by one of the intimidating foreign locals that spoke the same language as one of the bar staff. This ‘man’ (I use the term loosely as no real man would act this way) was staring at my partner for no apparent reason and wouldn’t stop even when approached in a nice manner by my partner, my partner even shook his hand but he still continued, my partners son even asked the bar man to step in before it escalated to which he shrugged his shoulders so I asked and he did then ask the man to move away but he still continued to stare - he has a very obvious chip on his shoulder, must have ‘alpha’ issues and proceeded to say in the little English he did speak that it was ‘his bar’ like he’s a blimin cave man or something! We moved to the other end of the bar and within a couple of minutes he made his presence by us again by the front door. Made a total idiot out of himself and resulted in us not wanting things to escalate further, so we left our drinks and went somewhere far more welcoming, we had just been to the Edinburgh tattoo so this tainted our night after that. We have been in the Castle Arms many times as we visit Edinburgh twice a year since 2018 and this is the first time something like this has happened and we don’t feel like we could go in there again which is a shame due to one arrogant individual
EDIT - for owner - details are 12th August 2023 and it was after the Tattoo finished so approximately 10.45pm arrival but could be a little bit...
Read moreSo this was by far the worst culinary experience I've had in my life. Overall, the food sucks, the service sucks and you'll spend over an hour sitting around for your food. I strongly recommend going somewhere else. Do not waste money or time here.
We ordered Nachos to share at the table and I had the Highlander burger. The nachos were poorly done. It looked like a mess of chips, cheese, a couple small chunks of chicken with disproportionate scoops of guacamole, sour cream and a very small amount of salsa. My burger was so hot when it came out I couldn't touch it for 5 mins. In the mean time I ate the terrible salad that was plain and lacking fresh vegetables. When I did get around to the burger, it was so overcooked that each bite had a loud crunch. There were two small onion rings that were extremely cold.
The service was also terrible. It took 10 mins to be seated (after chasing a waitress down), at which point we were told that menus would come. Again, we fended for ourselves. When she came to take our order her English was so poor that she had to have us point to the menu. This was the last time a waitress would come to our table. As I looked around at other tables this was also the same thing for them, long wait times. That same waitress who "forgot" about us managed to spill a whole beer on another customer. The staff seem confused about their roles and responsibilities which is probably due to the poor management that...
