We used to love this venue and have visited many times. This time was ruined by an overzealous security guard. We entered, as we always do via the hotel. We always stay there. We showed outer tickets, no problem. We were then ‘chased’ by this so called security guard, to ask if we entered from the hotel. He saw us, so don’t know why he asked. Anyway we said yes, showed our tickets and he said ‘they’ want everyone to enter by the front door - fair enough, however told us ‘it was fine, as we’re already in’. After that everywhere we went, he seemed to be there. Not following us, I must add, but just be overly visible, moving people along, bossing people around, being a nuisance to race-goers having a day out. Unfortunately it was raining heavily so after a few races we decided to go back to the hotel, only to be stopped entering our hotel by the security guard who let us into the course. She had been instructed by the ‘overzealous’ security guard not to let us back into the hotel. My partner confronted him about this. He was overly aggressive to her and she complained about him. We were approached by the Chief Executive, or so we were told. She did agree he had no right preventing us entering our hotel, but no apology from anyone.

She told us she would fully investigate and contact us. Weeks later we have still not heard anything.

This is not a local racecourse to us and we travel circa 4 hours each way. We did enjoy previous days out, but will not be back. A day at the races should be fun - this was...

If you read nothing else Eat before you go

The racecourse itself is alright and the grounds are what they are. It's an enjoyable day out but don't bet too much money I was told to do £2 either way and I stuck to it. Overall I won approximately £40 which helped with the rather expensive stalls.

Bought a pint of beer and a wine which cost £11.50.

Bottle of Pepsi Max £3.50 (not sure how they can justify this one little bit).

A 9 inch pizza, two cookies which were almost the same size as our Margarita and two bottles of pop.... This was a meal deal. £22.

My partner wanted a further drink and bought a pitcher of Pimm's (Basically approximately 3 pints worth tops). Price £27.

The Kaiser Chiefs were playing and absolutely smashed it making the day worthwhile but the prices are ridiculous in the current climate. They even check ladies handbags which I get if they are looking for drugs but I am positive the woman in front of me had cans of pop confiscated which is simply ridiculous.

During the gig several fights broke out because people were steaming. People were throwing water or what we think is water over the rest of the crowd.

All in all a horrible venue with disgusting toilets which are nowhere near big enough to actually cater for the masses who descend on the racing ground.

Plus if there is any inclination that the weather may change take a warm coat, you will thank me for...

Saturday, June 1st, 24. We were all looking forward to a day at Doncaster races as we've been many times over the years. Our problem wasn't the racecourse or the facilities or even the food, shout out to the pie and mash place it was awesome. Our problem was with the lack of staff serving beers. The ques were 40 to 50 minutes long. It was so slow . And kept running out of beer. But that wasn't the worst thing. When you finally got to the bar to pay £6,20 for carlsburg, you were asked if you wanted to pay 50p extra for a plastic cup or it was free for a paper one. Honestly, is it that bad we have to do this.... it was that bad. we had 1 beer in 4 hours until we had enough and walked out. And finished the races in a pub in Doncaster using sports apps. We wasn't the only one to. It's a shame really because the races are supposed to be a day out of fun and drinks. It's that bad he have all decided that later in the year when we was coming again we are just going into Doncaster for a drink and watch it in the pub using apps for the races. We as a group of 8 people, won't affect anything that the Doncaster racecourse decides to do going forward. But there were so many people complaining. In the future, they may see the affects of a poorly ram business just out for profit. And no longer wanting the little man to enjoy a day...

I got to attend the st leger, and today solidified that Doncaster is one of, if not the best racecourse for all race goers. The admission was quick and easy, minimal queuing and swift bag checks. All felt very safe with plenty of security around. Access to trackside and paddock viewing was amazing, as general grandstand admission allowed both and there were lots of food and drink opportunities! Also lots of different bookies to choose from. I don’t tend to use the grandstand itself, but today was an exception and I was pleasantly surprised - lots of seating that was relatively comfortable. Other race goers were friendly and very happy to talk which was lovely, we had a lot of fun overall and saw a lot of famous faces including the King, and I don’t just mean Oisin Murphy!! I highly recommend Doncaster Racecourse, everything is so well laid out and the views were great, nice big screens up too so you don’t miss any action. Horses were extremely well cared for as expected, and stable staff were praised over the tannoy which was a nice gesture. There’s something to suit everyone here! Even with it being the st leger everything was managed impeccably despite the crowds, I encountered no issues. Looking forward to returning to Doncaster for usual meetings and also to next years leger!
