This is the first time I've been here. I met up with friends from London. I'm local here. We fined "in". I say "in" because it was very difficult to accommodate two wheelchair users inside so we sat outside but still enjoyed ourselves. Lovely young lady took our order. I kept changing my mind (I've got food allergies and intolerances). Nothing fazed her. We all agreed she was exceptionally nice. And we really enjoyed the food. Because of issues I have with food I had chips, but what chips! They were melt in the mouth. Not your ordinary chips from a chippy. Scrumptious. One person had fish and chips and said it was delicious. The other person had a huge jacket potato with cheese. My latte was delicious too. I'll definitely go back and get some more chips!
They have stickers on the door that they are Halal so this place is a good eatery for my Muslim friends. They are food allergy aware too. It's across from the pier so if your time is short come here because service is quick! Sorry I haven't got more photos but my companions had started eating when I decided to take photos...

Bella Johns Fish and Chips is an absolute gem! From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted with warm, friendly service that makes you feel right at home. The atmosphere is clean, relaxed, and perfect for enjoying a comforting meal.
The fish is outstanding — perfectly crispy on the outside while staying beautifully tender and flaky inside. You can tell they use high-quality, fresh ingredients, and everything is cooked to order. The chips are just as impressive: golden, thick-cut .Portions are generous, offering great value for money.
What really sets Bella Johns apart is their attention to detail and consistent quality. Whether you’re ordering classic cod, haddock, or one of their other options, every bite is packed with flavour. Even the sides — like mushy peas, curry sauce, and homemade tartar — are excellent and clearly made with care.
Highly recommend to anyone looking for top-notch fish and chips. Bella Johns has definitely earned a loyal...
Read moreWe came to Southend-On-Sea for the afternoon today, to get some fresh air and had the aim of getting fish and chip at the end of the evening.
With no particular place to choose from, we decided to eat at one of the little eateries that are lined up.
It was the kids who stopped at this place (mainly due to the fact my little boy decided to dance for the girl in the restaurant).
I’m glad we did. I don’t want to be disrespectful to the food (which was good) as i would imagine all these places would serve roughly the same. but the service from the girl working there was great. She spoke with the kids and whilst we were talking about what they wanted to drink, she heard they wanted milkshakes so started to prepare them as they weren’t bottled. She talked so all of us but in such a friendly was that wasn’t intrusive and just made the place feel so welcome. thank you for this.
The food was good, lovely chips and a good price. Would definitely eat there next time we make...
