I visited today with my 18 month old daughter and my brother. We ordered 3 meals from the take away section outside and I sat down outside at a table with my daughter sitting in the pram at the end of the table. I was relieved to sit down as I am also heavily pregnant and it was rather hot. Once sitting I had set up my daughter’s lunch and she was mid way tucking into her lunch when a member of staff approached me and asked that we left and sat elsewhere.
Shocked, I asked the member of staff why this was and she explained there was 2 elderly people with their middle aged daughter who had arrived with walking frames that needed our table as they was ‘dining in guests’
I did explain that we was clearly here first and my daughter had started eating and we had purchased meals from here also but was told that we had to still leave as the table was for the restaurant (indoors when the chairs we sat at were clearly outside with no signage stating the rules)
I feel really frustrated and discriminated against given my toddler was already eating who I had to disturb and myself being heavily pregnant were left with no choice but to sit on dirty steps situated opposite the restaurant
Neither the staff or ‘preferred customers’ thanked us at all dispute the disruption...
Read moreThe Waterfront Chippy is hands-down one of the best fish and chip shops I’ve visited in a long time. Located right by the sea the views alone make it worth the trip – but the food? Even better.
I went with the classic cod and chips, and it was everything you’d hope for: the batter was perfectly crisp without being greasy, and the fish inside was flaky and fresh. The chips were thick-cut, golden, and fluffy on the inside – exactly how proper chips should be.
The staff were friendly and fast, even during the busy lunchtime rush. Everything was freshly cooked to order, and served piping hot. They even offered vinegar and sauces on the side so you could season to taste.
Bonus points for the generous portions and clean seating area outside where you can enjoy your meal with a sea breeze.
Whether you’re a local or just passing through, The Waterfront Chippy is well worth a visit. Proper British comfort food done right.thank you again...
Read moreWe went to waterfront today, they had a sign outside saying the OAP's get a meal for a set price £8, so we said we have two OAP's with us (assuming the meal they order will be for £8).. Well turns out the OAP is an actual dish so they ended up bringing two extra meals. We apologised and said we didn't understand - and it wasn't explained... So they took the food away.
When it came to paying the man/owner kicked off, literally shouting at us as if we were kids. He said he had to throw the fish away (his choice, there are a lot of homeless people in Southend), we then apologised and even said we will pay for the two extra meals.... No gratitude or thanks, he walked off in a strop.
We will not be coming back to this place, there are a lot of nicer places in Southend (even a few doors down), we just thought we'd try something different - big mistake, paid extra for this misunderstanding and ended up...
