I stayed here during my first year at uni before IQ took it over from CRM Students. At that time, I had a great stay with no problems whatsoever, and since I was studying abroad in my second year, I thought I would book to stay here again in my third year, because at least that way I knew what I was getting. I thought wrong. I can't believe how many issues there have been. From the constant fire alarms with little-to-no warning, to frequent issues regarding no hot water. However, the main annoyance was arriving to find a huge construction site next door to the building, which turned out to be more Brickworks flats they were building! This was ridiculous as we were given no warning about this whatsoever, and not even a discount for the inconvenience (especially seeing as it is their company building next door). Considering the prices have gone up considerably since I stayed here in my first year, that is the least they could do! I could only bear to stay here a couple of months because of my lack of concentration due to all the noise and respective problems (although I still have to pay for the full year tenancy). Your room should be a place where you can relax and/or concentrate on your studies, but this was impossible here. Especially it being my third, and most important year for my studies. I had to return home (which I have to get a train and a plane to get to) in order to get some peace. These are only a few of the many inconveniences I encountered, and I know others have experienced the same. The price does not correlate with the quality of this accommodation, and I do not recommend it. You can stay somewhere else for the same price (or less) and have a better...
Read moreAppauling mis managed and uncontrolled. None of the housing rules are enforced. Students are allowed to run unsupervised or protected. Dispite many complaints to the management about the drug smoking and loud music playing by certain students, the management have chosen to ignore and hope that issues would rectify of their own accord. Considering the monetary commitments required by students in advance, you would have thought that the Brickworks would have been managed correctly. Our child has now decided that she can no longer live here and had to find alternative living arrangements. Bullying, loud music times, drug smoking are all supposed to be controlled/monitored etc but clearly not and just ignored as student life. I would definately not recommend anyone to use this as student accommodation for their child, as they have no concern what happens with their tenants once they get their money. As for complaints, these fall on deaf ears, as no responce to phone calls or emails ever happens. To say we're disappointed annoyed angry, is an...
Read moreThe room is good and in a great area in York and the staff are lovely. However a few things I would say aren’t great are 1. The shower pressure, it was great pressure until it was randomly changed which I was told are the heads the showers are supposed to have however it takes me over an hour to wash my hair and I have products left in after drying it which is infuriating and is such a big thing for me 2. The fire alarms. I understand that students also set them off but it is also annoying when ur trying to do ur work and alarms are going off several times a week. 3. You can feel the individual springs in the bed and is uncomfortable to sleep in unless you pay for a mattress topper. 4. The kitchen sink smells of sewage when turned on. These are things that might not be important to other people but I wish I knew before choosing...
