Visited on good Friday ordered medium fish and chips asked for scraps which they didn't give me. Upon consumption fish was all 80% crunchy batter and 20% fish. Worst fish I've ever had.. Not Jim's usual quality i'm sure from reviews and previous visits but my low star rating reflects my visit as was left dissapointed and shouldn't have bothered
Response Edit Typical based on my only 3 ever visits over the past 5 years, and its pointless bringing this to your attention as not going to travel out of my way to have the fish replaced with the quality expected resulting in eating separately from the rest of the family who have eaten there's. Yes you'll see only negative reviews left from myself at other establishments and that is simply because there are enough praised reviews from others for me to want to leave feedback when positive (not that I should have to justify this to another business). So only reviewing when negative has no bearings on whether or not I only leave negative reviews. If i'm dissapointed with the food I will make it known when inconvenienced. That is my entitlement as a consumer and again replacing food isn't always an option so can't be rectified. So "however" also for you as a business small independent or not you're open to reviews negative or positive so accept it, dont patronise me by bring up reviews left for other places in an attempt to...
Read moreStopped here on the way home to the Netherlands from York & Hull. We'd walked to the (reportedly) 4th best chip shop in Hull (Cave St) but it was shut, so we headed for Hull's (reportedly) best chip shop by cab. It was worth the trip.
These were among the best fish and chips I have ever eaten. Everything was fried to order. The fish was absolutely fresh, with light and very crispy batter. The chips were perfect chip shop chips (which is something I miss in the Netherlands) and not at all greasy or oily. The entire meal was as good or better than anything I've eaten anywhere in Yorkshire or the rest of the UK. And it cost less than a tenner a head.
Jim's is an estate chippy, takeaway only and cash only, out of town and off the main roads. It will always be my last stop on the way to the ferry. Highly...
Read moreWow! Totally underrated Fish and Chip takeaway. Visiting the area and we tried two other fish and chip takeaways that claimed to be award winning. Thought we would try this one as it wasn’t far off our route for traveling back to our accommodation. What luck we had. Batter was light and crispy, fish was meaty and cooked to order. Chips were fresh and hot. Wife had sausage and it was one of the best she’s ever had she said. Owners were very welcoming and knew their regulars well. If in the area definately give them a try. Excellent portion sizes and very helpful. I forgot to take a picture of the menu board as the prices are very slightly higher than the photos I looked at on google but they are still excellent value! Not 100% but possibly fried in beef dripping as well and not...
