This historic river port town set by the river Great Ouse is a gem of a place to visit. Wether you sit by the Quayside overlooking the river watching boats passing under an historic bridge with a chapel in the middle, you can take a boat trip from here or even walk around the town seeking out some very interesting buildings, antique shops, pubs and independent retailers and markets on Monday, Friday and Saturday, this town is often buzzing. There are a decent range of very nice restaurants to choose from too, some dating back to the 1600. A statue of Oliver Cromwell looks over the town where he once lived. Parking is free for 18 hours in the Park and Ride adjacent to the town(bus to Cambridge from here) or for just £1.00 per day in the nice Dolphin Hotel next to the old bridge. St Ives feels like you are...

On one side of the bridge, the Arches are round, and the other side, they are Gothic. This is due to the fact that Oliver Cromwell blew up part of the bridge during the English Civil War to stop King Charles l troops marching on London. The drawbridge was removed in 1715, and the two new arehes were rebuilt in a different style. It is a beautiful bridge in a stunningly attractive town well...

If you're in St ives a visit to the bridge is well worth going to. Also the nearby walk by the river is beautiful and picturesque. The bridge itself dates back to the 15th century. It is one of only 4 bridges in England that contain a Chapel within the bridge. Has a great history through medieval times. Lovley views and sunset is amazing.
