Irish Linen Centre & Lisburn Museum — Local services in Lisnagarvy

I’m a lover of textiles and learning about the process of making the product from start to finish and learning about the history. My husband and I ended up at the Irish Linen Centre on a spur of the moment decision and it was so quaint and lovely. We spoke to Angus and another gentleman (can’t remember his name, only that he hails from Wales) and both were so knowledgeable and personable. We also had a wonderful chat with a lady who taught us how the looms worked. It was a real interesting visit. We were giving a chance to spin some linen yarn, see how jacquard cards were punched to create a damask pattern and how the weaving machine worked. It was furthermore put into the economic context of Ireland in these times, our host being a really knowledgeable historian and answering patiently to all our questions. Brought two separate groups of adults with disabilities to the exhibitions at the Linen Museum on Monday and Tuesday. We booked a free tour& workshop for both days and were shown around by Angus and Olivia.
