Larry King South Kensington — Local services in London

So I feel like I have to post a review because this pretty much never happens...Bear with me...I was looking for a hair salon to get my full head of white blonde highlights. My sis said, check out Harriet Muldoon on Insta, she’s a colour genius and as always, my sister was right, SHE. IS. A. GENIUS. But, I have disability - I use a little motorised scooter and can’t do steps and I often find that when I call a new place that hasn’t got access (and that often means just one, maybe two steps to the front entrance), I pretty much get told ‘no, we’re not accessible.’ Sometimes the person on the phone will recommend I go somewhere else but usually, I’m told no because of something minor and easily fixed. Well, when I called Larry King, it was a totally different experience...I spoke to Natalie who is a little wonder. I asked her about access and Natalie told me there was a step to get in, but once I was in, everything was dandy. When I said I couldn’t do the steps, Natalie said, ‘well that’s not right is it, what can we do about it?’ SO refreshing. So I suggested a 6ft fold up ramp might do the trick and Natalie went and ordered it straight away. She checked it worked and then sent me an email when it arrived so I could book my appointment with Harriet. She didn’t make a big deal out of it, she just recognised that she could do something and did it. This very rarely happens. So, I now get my hair done by Harriet who does my colour better than it’s ever been done before. She is honestly the most talented artist I have met - she’s a perfectionist, she checks my colour at every stage, suggests these funky little bleach baths, slaps on a hair mask, does something genius to my ends, I’m just beyond happy that I’m able to go to Larry King, a salon full of the friendliest staff, and get my hair done by her. I love my hair colour so much and will be going nowhere else. So thank you Natalie for not making a fuss and suggesting I go somewhere else. Highly recommend salon start to finish. Staff are friendly, clear and honest about services.

At my visit last year, I took a great leap of faith in asking James to give me a cut that looks good and works well with my hair texture and condition. Spot on results! At first the major cut was a bit tricky to fix on my own because my hair had not been that short in over 30 years. But, after minimal adjustment to manage the length, the cut proved to be one of the best I’ve ever experienced! Over 6 months of growth, it only needed to have ends trimmed once. My hair worked well no matter what I did with it - air dry or no, curl or straight, with products to give it more of an edgy look or whatever. James’ skill in understanding my hair, upkeep and overall look potential is unmatched. Bravo! I am seriously considering flying to London for yearly updates. (Crossing my fingers that the UK will be able to accomodate overseas travelers more readily by the end of July this year:-)

Though I did not have time to get my hair coloured, Harriet’s advice has been taken on board with great results transitioning to sustainable upkeep without over processing. Much appreciated!

Would give this shop 10 stars if...

Meh is my reaction. I went in with really light hair and wanted a very slightly darker cooled tone hair dye job while fixing my roots. She suggested to have my hair healthy not to bleach my roots and I agreed because I thought she would make it look seamless and said she would darken the the top of my hair to match my roots. This was not the case. She dyed my top of my hair a copper red, even though I very clearly expressed that I wanted it to be very cool tone. And then dyed dark brown on top of the red. It still turned out very red brown looking and it doesn’t look right at all because my roots are a cool tone dark brown. And now the dark red brown has basically washed out of my hair after 3 washes (got it done the 12th of November). So now my roots are really sticking out as the colours don’t match at all and the red brown is lighter. I also showed her what I wanted exactly in pictures and the result was NOTHING like I wanted it to be. Better than it was before but nothing that I wanted. For 320 pounds, it was definitely...
