Excellent Park
The Pond was contaminated with toxic algaes.....
Blue-green algae (cyanobacteria) can contaminate water bodies and pose serious health risks to both humans and animals. These algae can produce toxins that may cause vomiting, diarrhea, and skin, eye, or throat irritation upon contact or ingestion. In more severe cases, liver damage and neurological symptoms may occur.
The presence of ducks and other aquatic birds is closely linked to the growth of blue-green algae for several reasons:
Nutrient enrichment: Feces from birds contain high levels of nitrogen and phosphorus, which act as fertilizers that promote algal blooms.
Stagnant water conditions: Areas frequented by waterfowl are often shallow and still, providing ideal conditions for algae to thrive.
Ecosystem disruption: Overgrazing by birds can reduce aquatic vegetation, allowing algae to grow unchecked.
Organic waste buildup: Feathers, leftover food, and droppings increase the organic load in the water, further supporting algal growth.
These blooms not only pose a health threat to humans but can also harm birds and other wildlife that ingest the contaminated water.

Read moreIt was my first time in this pool. It is decent for swimming and cooling off although it is not the prettiest, it has the advantage of being close to one of the park entrances from the Overground station, Hamsptead Heath. I recommend it to have a good swim before spending the rest of the afternoon easily taking the Overground to the center of Camden or Kentish Town. Tickets must be purchased, preferably in advance and they are not expensive, considering that they are intended for the conservation and care of the place. If what you prefer is to take a day off and get away from the hustle and bustle of the city, then after that swim, nothing better than going into the park, looking for a good place surrounded by greenery and sounds of birds and having a good picnic. I promise it can be restorative and very uplifting. Warning: bring pencils and a notepad; it can happen that our inner artist or poet emerges spontaneously.
The last time I went, I met with one of my favorite people after endless pandemic years and the environment allowed me to keep the memory of one of the most perfect days of my life. Now she is expecting a boy and I can't wait to spend new perfect days, the three of us.

Read moreDreadful experience for several reasons. Firstly, there are no signposts to the various ponds and the one lido spread across a very huge park stretching for miles. Prepare for a long walk in the heat with kids unless you know the area well. Once we finally reached the mixed pond, there was nowhere to sit down. The only area for putting a blanket down is really small (about 5 metres X 20 for hundreds of visitors) and restricted by high fencing right by the toilets which are very unclean. The pond is fenced so there are no alternatives for sitting down. In this tiny, fenced, dirty crammed area, a lot of people smoke cigarettes , drugs and some even decide to make out. Very unacceptable if you are going with kids or simply prefer not to inhale heavy smoke. The water is really murky and there is glass in the muddy area if you happen to touch with your feet. The pond however is very deep and you cannot feel the ground for the most part if you remain in the middle. On a really hot day, the water was still cool. I found the staff acceptable, but they really must keep the place sanitary and ban...
