Amidst the hustle bustle of a perennial city, SOMA Yoga is a sanctuary that allows you to be in the present and get reminded of what life really is and should be about. Gea, the owner of the studio as well as one of the several highly proficient teachers, has done an excellent job in maintaining the quality of the space and has ensured that it is a warm and welcoming space for everyone.
I discovered SOMA yoga a few months ago and have since become a recurring member. The studio offers various forms of classes over the week, which allow you to ease in to your practice regardless of the level at which you are. From the vinyasa classes to energize you in the mornings, to the yoga nidra class taught by Bella, the yin+restorative classes taught by Renee and Gea, to an incredible sound healing class taught by Nina, there is something for everyone.
Speaking of the teachers, I have found that every teacher in the studio is seasoned and technically proficient. I grew up learning Sanskrit and amidst several yoga practitioners and I sincerely appreciate the effort to preserve the authenticity of the yoga practice at this place. The teachers use the authentic sanskrit names of the poses to help educate the class, in addition to the commonly used names for everyone's benefit. I have attended several yoga studios and what sets SOMA yoga apart is that the teachers here are true disciples of the art and tradition of yoga, and not just in it for the business. They are passionate about sharing their love and knowledge for their practice with the patrons of the studio.
Speaking of the space, the studio is nestled within a riverside community, offering gorgeous views and enough space for the attendees. The location is secure and very well maintained. The mats and props are of good quality and are very kindly set-up by the teachers before each class begins, so no one has to scramble to put everything together last minute and can gently ease into a quiet headspace. To help with that, most classes make hot herbal tea available before and after the class, which has sparked many lovely conversations with the community.
Talking of community, the studio is very community driven. They. hold several workshops and courses, for beginners, parents-to-be, new parents, yoga teachers and basically everyone who stands to benefit from the practice of yoga. They also organize retreats, of which my husband and I are greatly excited to be a part in a few months. That also organize kirtans to encourage meditation and chanting, as well as a monthly book club. Their sense of community transcends beyond just the practice of yoga.
This is a space where the entire community nearby gets together to connect with one another, disconnect from the world, take a pause and indulge in a millenia old practice that is good for the mind, body and soul. I highly recommend SOMA yoga to anyone looking to take a moment to themselves, this is the...
Read moreMy husband and I recently attended the "Birth Partners Workshop – Holistic Practices for Pregnancy & Birth" at SOMA Yoga, led by the wonderful Gea, and I honestly cannot express how grateful I am for this experience.
At 38 weeks pregnant, I’ve taken all the prenatal classes offered by our hospital, attended several online courses, and watched countless videos — but this workshop stood out as by far the most helpful and empowering. The class was thoughtfully divided into two parts: theory and practice. Gea explained everything with such clarity, warmth, and patience. Her transparent and kind approach made us feel truly seen and supported.
What made this class even more special was how involved the partner was throughout. It was the first class where my husband felt fully included and equipped with practical tools to support me during labor. We learned hands-on techniques for pain relief, comforting massage methods, and various birthing positions that we practiced together.
Thanks to this class, we both feel much more confident and connected heading into our upcoming induction. I left feeling empowered, informed, and deeply supported — I truly recommend this class to any...
Read moreSoma is a magical yoga studio with both soul and substance. Gea is a brilliant teacher and has created a wonderful community in this really exceptional setting in the river Thames. The classes are excellent. Soma also offers 200h yoga teacher training which is high quality and very enjoyable. As someone who initially signed up simply because I felt drawn to deepening my yoga practice, it has really developed my passion. Although it’s still a little over 2 months before I graduate, the Spanda method based training I’ve received so far has given me everything I need to already feel equipped to teach in the trainee teacher “community classes” - and it’s fun! Soma is really a very special place - and I would highly recommend it to anyone interested in yoga, no matter what their level or where they are in their...
