Part of the University of Manchester campus, The Academy covers 4 venues of varying size, spread over two physical sites. Academy 1, is a purpose built, stand alone venue, hosting major acts, I believe capacity around 2,000,multiple bars, cloak facilities, restrooms, and dedicated and cheap car park. The other 3 venues are sitedwithin the Students Union building, Club Academy, is an intimate venue in the basement, Academy 2, is larger, with a permanent stage, capacity around 500. Academy 3,is smaller, again, on top, 3rd floor, all have bars within, cloakrooms, wheelchair accessible via lifts. Some of my most memorable gigs have been across these venues, over many years, and I've never had any complaints to make, being made welcome by generations of student bar staff, house security, and have met many artists, informally there. Read moreThe Union itself is an amazing place. The lecturers, the provisions also 10/10. The staff at the reception are very rude and seems like they have not been trained how to talk to people. Why are you working in a face to face customer service role if you can't help people with queries? We have had many complaints from our members its mounting up to at least a hundred over the past couple of years. The staff at the help desk do not help you or are not able to for whatever reason. There is a man there we think he is called Tom. He is very rude and has had a go at our members and telling them off. If you are not happy dealing with people you should not be working in a job like this! if this continues we will take it to the union...
