Ocean Blue Fish and Chips — Local services in Southampton

I can't believe I have to write this. This was my favourite place to go! This was by far the best Fish and Chip shop ever to open in Woolston if not Southampton! But The owners decided to sell and changed over hands. I am saddened that I didn't get to see my friend one last time before they sold but putting that aside.

I chose to order after being assured the old owner showed them where everything was and that they haven't changed anything... This is a bold face lie, I am disgusted with the food!

I used to know the old own quite will in terms of business and often spoke about the quality and what she did to maintain standards. One thing she did that stood out from all the others, she used high quality potatoes! She refused to use the White ones other shops order, because she felt like the chips didn't have the right quality and taste! Sadly in the hand over something so simple like this was instantly lost and they changed product to a bland and tasteless potato.

The sausage... She made it a effort to buy some quality sausages, she did this to make sure she had the crown as the best sausage in Woolston. I am not 100% if they changed the sausage but the batter... The oily, greasy, disgusting batter that they put on this sausage was horrifying! My hands was coated in grease! She would have never let this happen!

The curry sauce!!!!! What the hell was you thinking! She had the best around! It was so rich and tasty, It was the best sauce I have ever had from a chip shop! And you right off the bat changed it to the common microwave disgusting sauce! No one in there right mind would have changed that sauce at all! It's disgusting!

The pea fritter..... Why? Why did you come in and change everything to make it worse? They had the best Pea fritter, it was a smooth texture in a light Chinese style batter.... instead you changed it to a marrowfat type disgusting cheap pea fritter, tasted like something you would get from lidls..... it was hard peas, with this raw bite to them... That is NOT how it should be, it should be a nice smooth texture with a little bite if anything not this horrifying emulsification of pure excrement!

I am sad the old owners went, but I am deeply saddened as to who's taken over! I hope the old owner is successful in what they chose to explore and I hope that there was no horrible reason as to why they had to leave.

Do not go here under any circumstance at all! Disgusting!

Also as a side note, they charged me £10.30 for less quality... outrageous!

Were do I even start? First of all how dare you claim you are using the same stuff the last owner was! The pea fritters are using different ingredients, the curry sauce is completely different and the chips where mostly thin hard and disgusting! What planet are you on where you can even remotely call it the same!

Hate speech? Not at all, I am extremely disappointed that you took one of the best Chip Shops in Southampton and turned it into the most disgusting one I have ever eaten from. Tasty place up the road was the king of nasty, before it was taken over, now it's mid at best... Sadly YOU have taken that crown. I am sad the owner left and I didn't get to say bye, but your food is outrageous, disgusting and a pathetic attempt at trying to cash in on the success that they had!

Also looking into my account to see what I review... I mostly review the places that make me want to review, most of the reviews I have made about 11, are places to avoid. I hardly make good reviews because most of the time there is enough out there to see how good the place is without me needing to make a review, but there is never enough negative in depth reviews for places like this. Ocean Blue has recently changed hands so the need to update my previous review.

Unfortunately, it's not good. The chips were cold, and my steak pie luke warm (at best) with soggy pastry. The fish was fine though, but no tartare sauce sachet and lemon slice as previously.

The best part about this chippie: its curry sauce, is alas no more... Once the best curry sauce of any chippie, now just the same standard chip shop rubbish probably made from a powder from the cash & carry. Absolutely awful.

Shame, now I've got to find a new go to chip shop!

Great fish & chips.

Fish always great, chips good too. Curry sauce is to die for, best curry sauce than any other chippy.

Slice of lemon and sachet of tartare sauce comes with your fish.

Just got food for four from ocean blue and we all agreed it was top notch!

Having travelled round the country, I’m a bit picky about chippys - so really happy to have tried this one.

Batter - excellent. Thin, crispy without being brittle. Fish - fresh, not mushy, cooked perfectly. Served with lemon and tartar sauce sachet. Comes in a real sturdy box too. Chips - chunky, crispy, fresh spuds. Also tried the onion rings and mushrooms. Again, batter light, crispy - excellent

Portion sizes - huge. To be honest, two large cod would have done three of us easily.

Small chips is plenty enough for one; large would do two easily.

Another top top - why not pop down the road to Olaf’s Tim for a quick half and some takeout ale while you wait for the fish to fry?

This might be the perfect chippy in Southampton
