Not having visited these shores for many years I was very disappointed that after 30 years the stench was still prominent and the water just as polluted or more so. Car parking is now much better with a height barrier in place to prevent big vans and commercial vehicles from entering. I was told this was to prevent caravans from entering. Apart from the permanent 1900s structure that once served ice creams teas and cakes, that is no longer in service. Now, there is a mobile ice cream man and a burger van. The shore itself is clean and tidy apart from the usual seaweed deposits and occasional driftwood. I was presently surprised not to see rubbish stroon about the place. My only really disappointment is the many caravans known as gypsies or travelers oarjed alobg the roadside and boy racers doing standing start getaways and on the spot wheelspins. Something else which seems to be a thing nowadays is the reving up of their engines. They line their modified cars up in the bays in the carpark nearest the entrance to Victoria Country Park. This is to see who has the loudest and best exhaust system. In my day back in the 1980s it was the bikers racing along the roads but now that is not so easy due to the road restrictions in place. I saw 15 bikers all sat on their bikes enjoying their beverages or sat at the tables provided by the burger van sll chatting and having a good time. Wgen i attempted to carry my viffeecabd cheeseburger to my car while using a walking cane. Several bikers offered to help which i was greatful for. I find it difficult walking after i was shot in the leg while serving my country. A walk along the shore with my dog was memorable. It brought back many favorite memories especially that of returning home on the ship Canberra after my tour in the Falklands and the smell well, you soon get used to it which is why I only gave this promenade 4 stars...

Read moreGreat sunsets and a great walk. The prom is popular with dog walkers, families and people enjoying the fresh air and a nice view.Flat and level and accessible to everyone. Not much in the way of facilities, the only public toilet is firmly locked these days. In the summer there is an ice cream van. It's possible to walk all the way to Hamble and it's great walk and pathways all the way.Lot's of parking at Weston Shore. The sunset's are pretty good too.I almost forgot.I helped to build the pathway extension between Weston and Netley Castle.Hope you enjoy it.My only criticism is perhaps cyclists could invest in a bell for their bikes. It would save bad feelings from people who have no warning when the bikers get too close when they overtake.I don't have rear view mirrors...
