Goodwill West Texas - Abilene N. 1st — Local services in Abilene

Always enjoy coming here to browse. There’s lots of good stuff and usually has what I’m looking for when I go in with something specific in mind. However, the outside employee taking donations was very rude after 1pm. A younger male employee was helping a man unload in the drive thru donation area. Since I just had a bundle of 10 plastic hangers to donate I opted to put them in the giant blue bin that says “DONATIONS” I had already made it back to my parked car when the employee yelled at me from across the lot “MA’AM, DON’T PUT STUFF IN THERE.” I proceeded to walk back to the bin; dig out all the hangers, and walk them over halfway to him instead. He made a smart comment about “I don’t want stuff in there it’s way too full.” It wasn’t, there was a scooter handle hanging out but other than that the slot to drop stuff in opened and closed just fine. I mentioned they should probably put a sign up if one singular employee didn’t want people donating stuff into a literal donation bin and he proceeded to make a snarky comment under his breath as he was walking away. Didn’t apologize or thank me for understanding or anything. Implied it was my own fault for dropping donations off in a bin labeled for donations. Perhaps management should schedule someone to clean out the donation bin more often if you’re that inconvenienced when people put 10 plastic...

I have to give credit to Goodwill on the creativity of reusing this location. This buildings' previous life was clearly a car dealership and the store is in the old showroom. 👏

Beyond this, it's a pretty typical Goodwill (though it's a little on the small-ish side). The store is well maintained and the staff was friendly with us on our first/last visit.

FYI, we're not from the Abilene area (we were passing through on a trip and stopped by) but I'm guessing there's a problem with theft in this store because there was a VERY watchful member of the staff keeping an eye on everyone (which made taking nice photos of this place a little nerve-wracking for me LOL). Prices were right for a Goodwill!!! Lately we have notices that GoodWill Prices are going up everywhere. Picked out 4 chairs, a Table, coffee Table, some art, khaki pants, and was still looking and so excited at prices. We drove an hour to area and water kicked in. I'm mature age and we just cannot hold it, very nice employee started to show me the way to the bathroom... But another employee said NO, SHE CANNOT GO IN THERE. She looked me up and down, I felt like it was because I was WHITE the way she talked to me. We LEFT! MAINLY because I had to find a public restroom before I peed, but, if I hadn't felt that way, we would have come back :/ Two stars for the organization and prices, and because the other employee was SWEET...
