"If you can't trust us, you shouldn't buy here." That's how I was denied service at this record shop. WoW! talk about a royal mind scramble. I had walked into this shop early in the afternoon filled with curiosity as to what kind of cool things I might be able to find and buy. They had a variety of knifes, electronics, movies, and of course records, tons of them. I spoke to the 3 different store employees and they were all very friendly. One of the staff members reminisced of a Metallica concert at a vineyard which I really enjoyed hearing him talk about. I had some errands to run so I ended up leaving empty handed. Later that afternoon around 5:00 p.m. I came back wanting to buy some speakers I had seen that day. I walked in to the store and Metallica guy helped me out again. This time I asked if I could have a test listen to the speakers I was interested in. He obliged and said "Of course". He proceeded to hook up one of the speakers which didn't sound all that great due to the static from the poor radio reception. I guess he caught on to this and brought over his phone and hooked it up via bluetooth. The sound was impressive for that one single little speaker. It was at this point I asked if I could listen to the second speaker. At this point he was hesitant and was becoming unnerved. Noticing his body language, I explained how I didn't want to end up buying defective or torn speakers. And That was the trigger. Metallica guy then said, "Thats why we have a warranty. If you can't trust us, you shouldn't be buying here." I was caught so off guard. I immediately apologized and said I was sorry, I didn't mean to offend him or his establishment. I went on to explain how I wasn't from around Abilene and I was staying at a Hotel for work. I mentioned how I didn't have access to a receiver to hook them up and listen to them. As I apologized and explained, Metallica guy proceeded to return the speakers to their original places without ever testing the second speaker. Never in my life had I been denied service. I felt so embarrassed and ashamed. If the speakers would have been thoroughly tested, it would have been a no return purchase on my part. Im well aware I was purchasing nearly 25 year old speakers, and as long as they had worked great at time of purchase, I would have kept them. This is a small business not a nation wide retailer. I can't return it if it doesn't work when Im back home 500 miles away. If in the event they hadn't worked back home, no harm no foul I knew what I was purchasing and would have fixed them at my cost. A word of advise to the fellow traveler and the out of towners. The passerby that's not from around these parts. The musically inclined roaming nomad. The galavanting connoisseur of music. Please be aware that Metallica guy and the Record Guys do not take kindly to these folk.
Again, I didn't get to listen to (THEM) meaning both speakers. You through a fit before I could even listen to the second speaker. How can I TRUST y'all if I can't test the product prior to purchase. A visual and physical inspection of a set of speakers doesn't attest to its performance overall. Especially on 25 year...
Read moreSpoke with Kevin about getting some repairs done on two turntables. The conversation was great. He seemed extremely knowledgeable and honestly a fun guy. Dropped off my equipment the same day. Called back ten days later to see if they have gotten to them and was greeted with the rudest service I’ve ever received. Kevin said “Why don’t you come pick them up. One of the things we do is if someone calls and tries rushing us, we have the right to refuse to work on their equipment”. I asked if he was having a bad day and then nicely agreed to pick up the equipment. No clue what changed or how a business expects for their customers not to call for an update. In no way was I rushing this gentleman. My ticket actually says the items are promised in a week to 10 days. I had no expectations of them being finished. This was the first time I’d even called to check on my property. Rudest service and communication I’ve ever received. I believed this establishment to be a hidden jewel in Abilene and it may be for some. They have lost my business. The inconvenience of driving to dallas is not that bad. I’d rather do that and be met with civility than a pompous attitude. Good luck to...
Read moreThis whole crew is the bomb. The owner and his father who's usually up front are always so warm and helpful. They allowed me to look a little deeper into their backstock when I was hunting some very specific Beatles albums. I had just lost my father, and the hospitality shown by John and crew really picked me up in a tough time. That was almost 2 years ago, and they've been my "beatles brokers" ever since. Then today, I needed to sell some nicer vintage cards and most shops around Abilene will offer you near raw prices on high grade cards. Well, I come in today and meet Michael who mans the TCG counter. I showed him what I had, he asked what I wanted. We couldn't meet dollar for dollar so he gave me some trade on a couple of Pokémon boosters that are getting a little tougher to find. The deal was struck and done, but he saw me take a look at the new Destined Rivals booster set... and just puts a pack in my hand, saying you have a good night.
These guys have never been anything but awesome. Its the kind of shop where shopping there makes you want work for...
