SoulFood Shack Grab & Go — Restaurant in Abilene

Let me say that the unassuming outside does not match the flavors that are awaiting inside! I came across this place by doing a search for lunch, but I wanted something different for lunch. Coming from Florida and now residing in Abilene, I wanted Caribbean. I didn’t think there was a such a place in town, but google proved me wrong. Not only was I wrong, it’s close to my house so I decided to stop in. This is a small store front and very unassuming. I walked in and you can hear the Reggae music coming from the back kitchen! I also got a whiff of something that smelled familiar, being that I grew up in the Caribbean. After a few minutes of chatting with the young lady at the front counter, I realized they had Beef Patties! I didn’t think twice about that. I also ordered the Ox tail special with rice and vegetables. The Patty came out and that was the fastest thing I ate. So flavorful and the outside was so flaky and crusty. So damn good. 👍 I then opened the Oxtail container. That allspice smell hit me and I went in. The Oxtails were tender. Oh and that gravy! I asked them at the front for some pepper sauce aka hot sauce. That also was delightful. I’m glad I came by and checked this place out. I get tired of Burger joints. This might just be my new favorite place in town. This is as close to comfort food for me and I know I will be back. Excellent job to the chef 🧑‍🍳. Everything...

I seen a post on the Abilene Small Business FB page about a new soulfood restaurant opening, so I wanted to try it out. I walked in and was greeted by an amazing employee who engaged in small talk and fantastic customer service. I gave her my order, and she read it back to me to make sure that everything was correct. I did go around 245, and it was right before they closed. Some items weren't available anymore but she recommended other items that would be just as good. Now, let's talk about the food. I got the jerk chicken, fried wings, Mac and cheese and cornbread. The jerk chicken was seasoned and cooked to perfection. It wasn't overcooked and hard, it was soft and melted in my mouth. The fried hot wings were delicious!! Again, it was cooked to perfection to the perfect crispness that a hot wing should be. The Mac and cheese was also delicious and the cornbread. I would recommend this place to anyone who wants a very delicious meal. My tummy was full and the portion amounts were very generous. I would recommend going earlier though, just to make sure that the food you want is available. Not before closing time like me. I've heard that their banana pudding is splendid so I'm disappointed in myself for totally forgetting to order some. But, they have gained a loyal customer with me, and I'm hoping to try...

I came in from out of town with my friend for her doctor’s appointment & we both figured we should pick up something quick to eat before. Right as we attempted to walk in we were treated very poorly, for the man in front was very rude and kicked us out prior to even walking in. Both my friend & I being veterans were unaware service animals are not allowed, which is completely understandable! One of us would’ve waited outside with the service dog while the other ordered our food, but the man in front wouldn’t even give us the time of day to create a simple solution. He was extremely rude, non negotiable, even came off a bit hostile over a situation that could’ve been EASILY resolved. Absolutely will be reporting to the Business Bureua. I’m disappointed but glad we didn’t support a business who treats potential complying customers so...
