As a young child, River Oaks was a magical place unlike any other I had ever experienced (or have experienced since). Not a mall, the central "courtyard" was cool and shady, with trees and ground cover. I went with my grandmother, sometimes my Mom, when they were buying shoes or clothing. (There may have been a bookstore I frequented later in my twenties?) Now it's a ghost-town tax write-off for some careless corporation. When I win the lottery it will become the coolest place in town with a tobacco/gift store, a coffee shop, a hobby/modeling/gaming store, a bookstore, a burger-grill place, a Mexican joint, a barber shop and a beauty salon. Read moreThe River Oaks shopping center is in a prime location for people living near Judge Ely Blvd., and has several options for your shopping convenience. There does seem to be a fair turnover in stores; some close, others open. United Supermarket and Dollar General have been there the longest. United is fairly expensive and does not have a pharmacy. The businesses that are not in the front row really suffer because their is not good parking as it is for the main view and there's not enough signage to tell you what is back there hidden. If there were more signs with that other businesses are in the middle of the plaza, the entire center would thrive. The parking is awful. You have to park pretty far usually because of the customer flow of UPS. Ups definitely has the business in this shopping center. The parking lot has a lot of large holes as well.
