Bottom line up front: Bakery: 5 stars The rest of the United experience: below par. 2 stars
I needed a birthday cake. The woman who made it was fabulous. I wanted it early and she made that happen. I only wanted a white cake and she waited before writing on the cake. She didn’t know if I wanted it completely white. I really don’t like adding dye to my food. I’m sure the white would have been great. I went with a lite pink color they had. United is expensive and I can’t afford to buy my groceries there. The self checkout was difficult because of some physical disabilities I’m having. It was weird someone who was watching the self checkout while the store was fairly empty and watching as I struggled. Maybe I don’t understand what an employee must do while watching people at self checkouts. I don’t want to be so harsh. I feel like there needs to be some humanity with the self checkout since we’re basically doing everything at the self checkout and it was my only option at that moment.
I wish I could just give a rating for their bakery and the woman who helped me. But I can’t ignore the other issues. It was obvious I was struggling. She was amazing. I miss dealing with people. Covid really played a number on everything. (Not just a grocery store. I don’t think anything was not touched by the...
Read moreI am so appreciative of the United Corporation and especially the United’s on Judge Ely and Main and Amber in Abilene, TX. The meat “buy one get one free”, the extra discount points/savings on commonly used items as well as the cumulative points, which I use for gasoline, help keep my costs down. The staff are very friendly and helpful. I have been going there so long, and the retention is amazing, most of the people recognize me, and other long time shoppers. There are assisted living facilities nearby and they always provide a comfortable area for them to wait. Tim, the manager at Judge Ely, sets such a good example for the young men and women working there. When short handed and lines are long, he checks customers out. I have seen him sweeping floors and carrying out groceries. This reinforces the importance of the customers and, equally important, that no service is non-essential. I worked the election for 2 weeks at the United on Main and Ambler and buy gas there. The staff was gracious and the daily soup selection was amazing. I noticed daily dinners especially from Hendricks who has their own...
Read more3 days ago, I overpaid for portobello mushroom caps. When I opened them at home tge same day as purchase, the underneath sides were so gross, there was slime, discoloration and a thick mucus. I went back to the same store today, even though I forgot my mushrooms to return, I went ahead to pick up a few things. Every single package of non organic raspberries in the produce section were ruined. Molded, soft and leaking juice and several packages had this weird black stuff on the berries. I don't live by this store, I drive from far south abilene as I feel market street is one of the worst stores for over pricing and mediocre products, also to avoid Mona, who likes to push her political views on guests. I probably won't make it back to take those $5 rotten mushrooms back. Check produce and expiration dates before purchasing from this chain. It's happened so many times that I've taken moldy bread, out of date bakery items and expired dairy products from these stores because I forgot to check. At least the staff at united on...
