Pros: Massive selection of product, clean and tidy area, some hard to find out of print items
Cons: You can feel the profit maximization to the point it borderlines greed. Higher table fee to play 40k (unless you join a $60 league), highest MTG Commander night fee (but free on Sunday, why even charge for Friday?).
I've been coming here infrequently for about 5 years now. First I'll say the the biggest compliment I can give is they are well stocked. They have a massive selection for MTG, Warhammer, DnD, and other games. If need something with major urgency they will most likely have it.
Now the downside to that selection is that the price. Nearly all desired product range from a few dollars over MSRP to massively overpriced. Now that wouldn't be a big issue until you realize when they are running a sale, you could still find their product cheaper online from other stores, let alone the Amazon in the room.
They do also have some tables for 40k and other games. The downside? They charge $10 per person to play on them for a whopping $20 per table for the day if you want to meet a buddy there for some fun (now that's what I call profit margin 😉). They do have a league set up which is nice, but it's $60 for 7 weeks and it waives the table fee during the league, but only for you. So if you're friend is not part of the league they have to still pay. The league does have prizes for top 3 with a generous payout for 1st place.
They do also have commander on Fridays but it's $10 to get it with raffle prizes. Honestly here I'll say don't bother, there's cheaper or free commander nights in so many stores. Excelsior Comics free, Omar's comics free, Webway free, Game Underground FNM free, pandemonium $5, Endangered Hobbies free. Yes to be fair they have free commander on Sunday, but why even charge $10 on Friday, with a start time of 7:30 pm and a closing time of 10pm. Yeah imagine paying $10 for 2 and a half hours of play time.
I like the store, and will give it 2 stars for its massive selection of product and tidy area, but it's evident that the Owner tries to squeeze as much profit as possible out of every sale. That feeling just pushes me away to other stores that are more fairly priced and that I feel more comfortable supporting. I would return and actually buy items if I felt less like a wallet and more...
Read moreI have tried being a customer to this place a few times. They have a great selection but the owner is a piece of work and they never announce ahead of time if they are closing for extended periods of time.
First instance of using the store we were met with excellence service from the guys working in the store. Amazing selection of magic singles and the people working there were nice. We purchased a bunch of product and the pricing was decent.
Second time was when we worked with the owner directly. We were trying to sell almost a decades worth of Commander sealed product. She was very combative when we tried negotiating a price when we already had an offer and basically told us to take our stuff elsewhere when we mentioned that. Apparently it was appalling to her when we asked 50% on almost 5k worth of sealed product, especially original 2013 and 2017 sealed commander products that are upwards of 700 a deck.
And the third and last time was today. We checked online to make sure of their hours that they were open because friends wanted to see their singles collection. My husband and I live an hour away but friends live 2. We arrived to a sign saying they were closed until may 12th. Their website does not reflect this and their facebook shows 6 days ago a group of people for the new magic set prerelease but no info reflecting the closure. When we called after the fact, the person on the phone was condescending and said we should have called first, which we understand is valid but we did our due diligence checking online first. It wasn’t our fault that the information we needed wasn’t available in an online world.
This place, while being the largest tcg center in the area, needs to take a step back and realize how much they are affecting our...
Read moreThe owner wants help running their store, but refuses to pay a livable wage for the area of the country they are in.
Don't be fooled into thinking this is some entry level job either. They want someone to handle general retail work, order processing for online sales, shipping and receiving, file clerk, and card sorter. For context MTG has been around for over 30 years, and has over 27,000 unique cards with more being printed every month. And that is just for MTG, they want experience in pokemon, warhammer, and other games as well. Being knowledgeable enough about just one game is impressive, you have to know the cards/rules, you have to be able to grade cards on the fly, you need to have a working knowledge of pricing to both buy and sell singles and products (Wotc, creators of MTG, do not put MSRP on their products).
In addition to wanting a single person to do the work of 4+ people and NOT pay a living wage, whoever contacted me via their indeed listing (and I have to assume it was the owner based on how the other reviews have described him and how he talks to people) was asking illegal interview questions. Showing they lack a basic understanding of US labor laws and practices. Also telling someone they can't afford to live in an area while also refusing to pay a wage that would allow it? Rude and uncalled for This is especially rude to say when you run a HOBBY gaming store where MTG players will spend a thousand dollars on a deck, and warhammer players will spend several thousand on a single army.
Anyways, don't support a store that doesn't pay a living wage and treats potential...
