Trestle Vista Observation Site+bridge — Local services in Alamogordo

An interesting place to stop and take in the views and history of this part of New Mexico. The Trestle Vista Observation Site is where old steam locomotives used to claw their way up from Alamogordo through to Cloudcroft snd then to everywhere else.

The trestle accents the nature of the terrain, and makes a sharp curve that probably caused the engineers, conductors, and the railroad company many problems.

This is a very peaceful, healing, and absolutely stunning landscape in every direction you look. The energy in the air and the smell of pine is soothing and uplifting. The air is crisp and clean. The Lincoln National Forrest allows camping anywhere in the Forrest that isn't privately owned. Traditional "campsites" are there in abundance as well if you prefer to retain some amenities. If you're making your way to cloudcroft, make sure you don't miss this site! It doesn't take long to take it in, but it's fully worth the view. Also, there's a great bit of history here that'll walk you through the trestle bridge and how the area became what it is today.

Really a neat stop on the way up the mountain.

I will say it's much tougher to turn into the area while going down the mountain. You might even say it's deathifying lol. I do recommend catching it...
