First time in Cloudcroft, we were amazed at the area! Beautiful natural area and very fun location. We walked in the bar and thought this was going to be a great, fun place to grab a drink and some food on my birthday. Ha! We walked in, I had to find a waitress and ask if we just sat ourselves, yes, no problem. The place is popular, so I had to ask another customer if we could share his table, a table for six, and there were only two of them. So not a problem. His friend comes to the table with drinks from the bar. We have already been waiting 15 minutes, no waitress, nothing. So two of my party went up to the bar to order drinks white we waited for the waitress. The bartender yelled at them telling them only a waitress could bring the drinks to the table, so they sit down and wait. 15 minutes later, the waitress comes to our table, we explain what happened, she goes to get our drinks, my drink order is wrong, she had to fix it. Then 10 minutes later she comes back and asks us what we want. I asked her if we were supposed to look the menu up online, and she said, oh! You want menus? Usually people just order the tacos on Tuesday. Huh? I looked around at other tables and the food was about half and half. So we had to wait for menus. We finally placed our order, another family came in after that. They ordered and got their food before us, we waited another 10 minutes after they got their food to get ours. This place is a disaster. It obviously only caters and respects locals, even though the area seems to be very touristy. A side note, not related to the restaurant per se, but the first table we sat at, a lady joined the two men at the table and wondered why we were sitting there, that there was a table opening up 'over there'. I was taken aback! The two men graciously let us sit there. So when I saw the other table paying their bill, I asked if we could take the open seats, so we moved. The restaurant doesn't have music, but does have a juke box, so I put in a bunch of songs, met another couple and they put in a bunch of songs. Then a guy at the pool table started playing music on his phone really loud so we couldn't hear the juke box music. Obviously he didn't like our paid choices, no one said anything. As cool as this place looks, I wouldn't return. Just a crappy experience after a lot of anticipation. Oh and did I mention the dog? The customer who brought the dog in let him eat out of one of the restaurants dishes on...
Read moreThe pictures of the quail is what initially drew me in. I was staying in Alamogordo for the weekend and decided that it may be worth the drive, in which the scenery definitely was. Once getting there and opening the menu, I noticed that quail wasn't a menu option, so I asked. The waiter said no, so I went on to order trout... no again, they had sold the last one recently, so the third time I ordered cod with a baked potato; they didn't have a baked potato. By this point it was getting a little ridiculous. The girl I was with ordered a chicken fried steak in which our waiter, sent who I guessed to be the cook out to say they were out of that too. Now maybe it being an hour before closing had something to do with it but it might've been easier to list off what they did actually have instead. Well we went ahead and got our salads and decided to try somewhere else. The salads were very mediocre and used generic dressing, which would've been fine if they wouldn't of tried charging $13 for two salads, a tea, and dr pepper. I brought it up to the waiter and he took 4.50 off and we paid by check and left... quickly. I really had higher hopes from this place based on prior pictures but it...
Read moreLocal and only bar in Cloudcroft. It’s usually packed during the weekends or whenever tourists are in town. It’s covered in $1 dollar bills that guests write their names in or a bit and then staple it to the wall or ceilings. It gives the place a fun atmosphere.
They do have pool tables and a dart board. They have a couple of televisions and a digital jukebox you can play music on but it’s usually at a low volume and you can’t really hear the music.
Aside from alcohol they also serve food. It is quite delicious! Their Phillycheese steak is delicious, so are their breaded mushrooms. They have Taco Tuesday and although they are advertised as $1.50 per taco, they do add some fees at the end so you’re not really saving any money. Kids are allowed during the day. Pets are allowed even though many times the owners are irresponsible with them. My family and I once had to sit next to dog poop while we tried to eat our dinner. The dog owner eventually picked it up, like 15 minutes later. The place reeked. I’m a firm believer that pets should stay at home if they are not a...
