I’ve been to a lot of Costcos across the country, but there’s something different about the Costco on Debarr Road in Anchorage. This store runs like a well-oiled machine, and from the moment you walk in, you can tell that the employees take pride in their work. But what really makes this location shine for me—and what deserves serious recognition—is the meat department and the incredible team that keeps it running strong.

As someone who cooks often and pays close attention to quality, I can say without hesitation that the meat department at Debarr Costco is exceptional. The displays are always well-stocked, the area is clean and organized, and the freshness of the products is top-tier. Whether I'm picking up steaks for grilling, ground beef for meal prep, or trying something new like lamb or seafood, I know I can trust the quality and consistency here.

But what truly sets this department apart isn’t just the selection—it’s the people behind the counter.

The meat cutters and staff in that department go above and beyond. They’re not just working hard—they’re engaging, helpful, knowledgeable, and genuinely kind. I’ve seen them field questions from customers with patience and professionalism, take special requests without hesitation, and hustle during busy hours without ever letting it show on their faces. These folks are the unsung heroes of the store—always behind the scenes, but absolutely essential to the customer experience.

One day, I had a specific cut in mind for a family gathering and wasn’t sure if it was available. I asked one of the employees, and not only did they stop what they were doing to assist me, but they went into the back, double-checked, and even gave me advice on how best to prepare it. That level of service doesn’t go unnoticed. You can tell these employees care—about their craft, about the customer, and about doing things right.

Also worth mentioning: they work in one of the coldest, toughest parts of the store—and still manage to smile and stay friendly. That alone deserves a round of applause.

Costco Debarr overall is a solid location with fast-moving lines, helpful front-end staff, and plenty of inventory. But it’s the meat department team that keeps me coming back. They're the backbone of the store and deserve every bit of recognition for the job they do day in and day out.

Ever since Sam's closed the food court service and quality has gone down hill. They are a lot busier and have not made any useful accommodations to deal with the growth in members/consumers. I just wanted to pick up a pizza for dinner really quick. When I ordered they said my order would be ready in 20mins. When I get there there is a group of about 10 people waiting by the counter. So I wait for my pizza. I go to the counter after 30mins and ask if my order is ready. (by the way the same people are waiting ) The woman behind the counter said "oh 20mins okay". I told her that I've been waiting for 30 mins and was told 20mins 30mins ago. She rolled her eyes and said "we are very busy and your food is not ready. I cannot say how much longer. Next." The man next to me said they have been waiting over an hour and and he approached the counter and asked her to check on his Pizza and she said "you need to wait a little longer it's not ready sir" He was upset and told her he doesn't have time to wait over an hour for a pizza that he was told would be ready 30mins ago. She backed away from the counter waving her hands. I don't know what to tell your sir. You will just have to wait. All they employees were stressed out and rude to people. Anyways we got our Pizza after an hour and 15 mins of waiting. I get that they are busy but if they can't get you a pizza when they say they can that's what gets me upset. If you tell me when I order. -We are very busy right now and the wait time is 45mins-1hour- I can understand that and I like the honesty. I do not appreciate being told 20mins and get treated rudely by employees when I ask when can I come back to pick it up. There was no room at all and the food court and was filthy so, we took the pizza home. We open the box, Half the Pizza is cooked well and the other half was still doughy. Mind you we waited 1 hour and 15mins for this pizza to "be ready". Such a horrible experience and a disappointment from what Costco used to be. I will not be returning to Debarr Costco. Me and my sister been a member with Costco since 2012 my family been shopping here since back home never got such horrible service till today. (We are not from here obviously) .we was shopping and of course it was the busiest day of the week.We stood in line for about 15-20 minutes(just to get our things ringed up) then an extra 20-25 minutes for the the cashier to box our stuffs(it was only him working by himself)we was on a tight schedule still had to go home and make the kids breakfast and what not.My sister had approached the supervisor about the lack of customer service today and all he said was “well we have people up there helping “ that was a lie all the supervisors stood there and watched their “team members “ suffer with the lines talking and laughing the whole time.Having customers wait so long just to pay for their things! Then as we walked out they checked our things and the cashier did not ring us up for anything under our basket and already we was annoyed so we had to pull up on the side by customer service and they had to ring us up for the items under the basket.My sister was going ballistic because nobody cared and some blonde that worked there I’m guessing she’s the supervisor kept giving us the stink eye the whole time.After all this mess up that Costco gave us this morning not ONE PERSON APOLOGIZED.This is an embarrassment to the company !
