I am extremely appalled at the lack of professionality of this gym. I "cancelled" my membership over the phone with my friend next to me on 8/7/23 with one of their front desk attendants after I had been out of town and had to turn off my card since they had attempted to charge it 10 times she had laugh at that and said she had no clue why it would do that. I was willing to let that go and thought after I had called and the employee told me I wasn't going to be on the bill cycle anymore that I was done with it. now this month I'm looking at my account and not only was I charged this month but also a week after I was told I wasn't going to be charged anymore. i spoke with two gentlemen who were nice but equally confused and said the back to back charges were weird and also that they would put in the notes to hopefully get me refunded since theirs clearly seems to be a communication problem. I finally call a third time to try and see where the status was on it and I get ahold of the manager Hailee who then proceeds to tell me there's a policy that I actually had to come in and cancel it physically. I was never explained this policy nor was I even in town to do so. she then tells me the girl that I told to cancel it actually put in the notes that I told her I was coming in physically to renew my membership, this was not at all what I said and if it was, I again physically haven't been into that gym in three months so it shouldn't have renewed. I understand if there was a policy but no one had ever communicated that to me nor is it posted in anything. the manager also tried telling me that I asked to pay for three months and again I never asked for that also my email and my membership is the month to month. I don't find it fair that because of the error of communication of employees should be my fault. an employee told me it was done and I believed them. the manager further tells me she wont approve any refunds due to my attitude, its on me for not following the policy that was never made known. but at this point I feel like I'm in every position to be upset because I wasn't treated with respect last month with the employee that thought it was funny when i asked about the multiple charge attempts to my card and that i no longer wanted to continue it and then now with the manager being completely bias and rather argue with me and find everyway to tell me what...
Read moreI wouldn’t recommend to anybody looking to go short term. I was told my membership was cancellable at anytime, as I worked a travel job. I was here for a month so I said no auto-renew, and the front desk guy said sure and said it wouldn’t be renewed. Turns out, the past three months they’ve been withdrawing money from my bank. I asked for a refund and was told no due to policy. So sign up at your own risk! Saw the owner answered this. On the very first day when I signed up, I made it clear I could do one month and wanted auto renewal turned off immediately. The guy said sure! It’s off your good. I’ve worked a travel job for 2 years so I’m very aware of gyms trying to screw you. I asked the guy 3 times if I was good and it wouldn’t be renewed. He promised me I was all set and didnt have to worry about it. Clearly I did. This is the first gym in two years of traveling that’s done this one to me, so I wouldn’t recommend it to anybody, I’m sure they’ll answer with a lie to make there business look good, but it’s not. Do not go here ! I also saw they claimed they called me, I was in a hospital watching my aunt die during this phone call. If you want to lose 210 dollars this is the place to go!...
Read moreI absolutely love this gym. I started going there two weeks ago after a terrible membership experience with the Alaska Club. Southside Strength and Fitness has an awesome and supportive atmosphere and culture of strength... honestly it has a family like feel to it. People are nice and friendly, they welcome you in warmly, offer you spotters or advice when you look like you need one/it, and just overall lift each other up and push each other. The equipment is well used but state of the art (as it should be). It is hard to explain, but walking into Southside Strength And Fitness just feels like walking into home. The rates are cheap ($56 a month!), and there are no greedy cancellation fees or other shifty business (like the Alaska Club so covetously execute). Overall, I have only good things to say about this gym–I know for a fact, in my heart, that I have found my gym and will be a life long member! If you are looking for a gym in Anchorage, save your money, skip the drama, and come check...
