I have natural African American Hair and was sadly approached with all the right styling techniques for Caucasian hair. It's sad that we have such an issue trying to find stylist these days that understand how to manage non-caucasian hair. I went in and asked for a stylist that has experience with my hair type and they happily pegged me with the only African American hair stylist they had there. They must have assumed because she is black she knows how to deal with natural hair. I wish that were true, but honestly it doesn't matter the color of the stylist some just do not take the time to learn how to deal with all hair types. I knew the appointment was going to go down hill when she pulled out a small tooth comb and proceeded to comb out my hair from the ROOTS! I nicely commented on the comb not being for my hair type and asked for a wide tooth comb and that she comb it out from the ends to the root. SHOULD ANYONE WITH CURLY HAIR EVER HAVE TO TELL A STYLIST THIS! the appointment was filled with me having my hair painfully detangled and flat ironed with a Chi flat iron tool only meant to be used in wavy to straight hair. My hair looked so horrible I asked her at one point to stop and that I would go home and finish it on my own. She then got with a manager that allowed her to open up another flat iron tool that was slightly more suitable for my hair texture. The stylist continued to comb out my hair from the roots and could not see that she was tangling my hair in the process. I commented on it several times but she continued to reassure me that the comb was in fact suitable for my hair. If you have tightly curly hair and especially kinky curly hair, run from this salon as it if were fire. I had to even ask her to use heat protectant on my hair! So if you value healthy hair and love your natural curls do yourself a favor and watch a couple YouTube videos on how to accomplish your desired style on your own. The overall experience was horrible. I even had to listen to other stylist and customers comment on how bad they felt for people that had Afro-puff type hair. I heard multiple derogatory comments on curly hair while I sat there so the message was clear, ULTA in Anchorage is not welcoming for non-caucaisan hair types. I only wish I could rate this with a zero stars. For anyone out there with curls, dry hair, straight hair, wavy hair, oily hair, fine hair, thick hair, kinky hair and, you name it kind of hair... embrace it! We are all beautiful! Spread the message that ALL hair types are beautiful and avoid businesses that refuse...
Read moreI have been back and forth to the store since moving here about a month ago and the girls really do try to help you but they're just too young they don't understand that people have different skin textures skin needs and undertones. They have no idea what you are talking about when you were talking about basic skin things like acne and undertones or wrinkles they are all like 12 years old I guess at least they're able to hire people to work at the store but it would be nice to have people who are actually trained in skin or something. They just are too young to be able to really help you. They can help you with trendy things like from Instagram but i just want thijgs to work for my skin so you have to just take what they say with a grain of salt. I am a neutral brown color and every time I get match the girls trying to match me with something black or orange or yellow even though I explained to them then I need a foundation that matches the color in the center of my face and the outside. They dont understand and ive had to come back so many times for makeup that hasn't worked. Some of the girls walk right past without greeting you or asking how you are doing or if you need help. The white cashier girl always seems to be high when you come to the register and just not into being there at all, just barely hanging on and not into people. And OMG ive never been called maam so much in my whole life. I'm not even old. I need these young girls to stop...
Read moreWent to get a hair cut at ulta for the first time. My friend told me that she loved going their so I set up an appointment online for a cut and style with Monah. When I got there the lady at the register said she was running behind and would page me when she was ready. I heard my name called so I went to the front desk. But I think the lady was on her way out so she just told me to have a set in a chair. Their was hair still all over the floor from the last person but she still had me sit there. Mohan washed my hair and started the hair cut. She didn't talk much and disnt ask if the cut in the back was to short. "It was" she straightened my hair to finnishe the cut. She didnt really style it at all. When I got to the register to pay she said it would be 66. But online it said 55. And their was a sign that said 1st time customers get 20% off there hair cut. But she said straightening my hair cost extra. But no one told me that. She never said anything. So she called a manager up. But the hair salon manger left for the day. So this lady had no idea what was going on. Monah took off the 11 is cost to straighten my hair and told me that someone should have told me before the hair cut that it was extra. She didnt give me 20% off and acted like she did me a favor by taking off the 11 dollars. It was just a bad experience. I will not...
