A few weeks ago, after months of ignoring warnings from Google and Microsoft my windows 7 stopped connecting to gmail and several other important sites. I was in a real bind and not sure what to do. My computer go-to guys were at Sandia Computers where I bought my last two computers and continued to have them serviced for the past 10 years. Do I need to schedule an appointment? Nah, just bring it by and tell us what you need done. Well I needed to have win 10 installed and a diagnostic check to see if anything else had gone wrong in the 2 years since my last visit. Turned out the hard drive was near the end of its safe life and Austin, the service tech, recommended a replacement before installing win 10. Sounds good. The installation, data transfer and set up looked fine too but for some reason we couldn't get signed in to gmail. That turned into a big struggle due to problems with the recovery account and some other quirks that were caused by letting my win 7 expire. Austin was there for me and even though it took several visits and two teamviewer meetings to get it cleared up he was always patient and professional and explained what he was doing even though I'm a total novice. After the computer was back online it was time for repeating the process with our second computer, a laptop. This time it went much smoother since we opted to upgrade to a new replacement for the laptop and everything came on right away. I now have both the computers home and working better than new. I always recommended Sandia Computers to anyone looking for expert, honest service and more so now that I've had a chance to put then to the real test of a quality service. I've dealt with most of the staff and even met Stan, the owner who came out during one of my visits to ask me if I needed help. Worst store in town. I can't believe I took my laptop here for repair. I thought this place would be good and legitimation since they have a commercial on tv, boy was I ever wrong! I dropped it off and was helped by someone at the service department who was really slow and didnt seem to know what he was doing, he was very unprofessional wearing a wind breaker, and his accent made it impossible to understand him. It took almost 20 minutes for them to get my contact info and to print a deposit for me to pay (mostly because he was screwing around and cracking jokes at another employees expense) I WAS TOLD THAT MY COMPUTER WOULD BE READY IN 3 DAYS, AFTER 9 DAYS I FINALLY GOT A CALL!!! I believe I spoke to the same person on the phone that helped me when I dropped my computer off because I could understand him (slurry speech, maybe we has drunk?) He told me that my laptop was bad (his words) and I needed a new one and he wanted me to come down and look at there laptops to pick one out. This all seemed very fishy to me. When I tried asking what was wrong he wouldn't give me a direct answer. I told him I would be in that day to pick my computer up. When I got there i literally grabbed my laptop and ran out of there. I ended up taking my computer to Adobe Computers. They took 5 minutes to look at it and found a ram module was loose so they pulled it out and put it back in properly. Set the stage, I am an antibigbox/antionline buying minimally tech savy octogenarian. Ten years ago Stu moved me from my old desktop to a new laptop. Stu took the time to understand my needs/uses and all of my programs/files and his recommended new programs were moved totally seamlessly. Great!!! but Stu set the bar to high. After 10yrs it needed replacement. Back to Sandia Computers, no more Stu. Existing SC staff sold me a new laptop and moved my old laptop stuff & Windows 7 to 11 to the new one (sort of). My existing antivirus was not moved, answer-Windows 11 has all the security you need. My existing printer would not interface with Windows 11 = they gave me a new one. A total of for trips were required to resolve this issue. Now it is time to travel and I am concerned about using public wifi. Another trip to SC only to find out that Windows 11 doesn't have VPN and I need to purchase an antivirus program. This should have been addressed at the time I purchased the new laptop. Result - I went home and figured out how to xfr my old antivirus (which they said was excellent) to my new laptop. This all should have been addressed at the time of purchased.
