These reviews are insane. This is a great place. Very few places kids can just be and hang out and this is one of the best ones in the city. We moved to ABQ 5 years ago and really have been regulars at this rink since. We recently became members and go at least once a week since the beginning of the year. I love all the changes that they've been making. I've skated in a lot of different rinks around the country. More and more are being bought up by corporations that suck all the good stuff out of them that makes a locally owned rink so great.
It's reasonably priced for two hour sessions, or all day passes and their newly implemented membership options are fantastic.
The food court has standard fair you expect. It's priced how you'd expect and the food is fine.
The bathrooms are usually clean but note that the sinks are outside the bathroom. I prefer that because I like to wash my hands a few times and not have to go in the bathroom to do so. Sometimes we've had an issue with my kids reporting vaping in the bathroom but when the staff is alerted they address it right away.
The rink is great. It's an epoxy style floor and they just refinished it again recently. It's smooth to skate on. The employees do a good job of regulating the skating floor. Sometimes you have a rouge kid going against traffic but otherwise it's usually smooth skating. The music is loud but I can have a conversation while skating so I don't think it's too loud. Sometimes depending on the DJ you get some older music which is fine but it would be better if they played primarily music from this decade. They often over do the fog machine. That would probably be my harshest critique.
We've held several birthday parties and they are the smoothest here than anywhere else we've done it. Highly recommend if you are considering it for a birthday. They keep a good schedule. They let you bring in cakes or cupcakes. They do a birthday shout-out and let your kid pick a song. My kids love it and are never disappointed in a skating birthday.
Options for a membership is really cool. It has different tiers which give some really affordable options. If you go more than 2x months you should really look into it. My only wish for the membership would be an easy scan option by the doo for members. It's a bummer to be stuck in a line because idiots who didn't read all the signs on the way in or missed the kiosks by the doors to sign the waiver and hold up the lines when I know when I get to the window they are going to just scan me and I go right in. It would be great if one of the benefits was skipping the line.
This is a local gem. We should consider ourselves lucky that we have an amazing local business that puts pride into giving us a fun experience in a safe place you can have a good...
ย ย ย Read moreHeres a couple comments for management that I hope they take to heart (1) we showed up with 30 minutes until the end of the session (which is all we wanted to skate since we were on a cross country road trip and not staying locally, just passingthrough). Because it was around the shift change, EVERYONE was gathered in the ticket booth kiki-ing, and no one would even acknowledge us when we walked up. We knocked on the window to get their attention and one person turned around angrily and said "next session doesnt start for 30 minutes, and immediately turned away from us before we could ask questions or explain we only wanted 30 minutes. We knocked on the window again, same girl turns around annoyed, we ask if we can just do the 30 minutes and she says "drawer is closed" and turns away from us as fast as she can. It was one of the weirdest, rudest experiences ive had at a rink which are usually just good vibes galore (and I make a hobby out of going to different rinks across the country - probably been to 20 rinks across 15 or so states). The last time we came to this rink when we were driving cross country in dec 2021, the manager was at the ticket booth and he let us in for the last bit of the session without question, so it's not always bad, but there are clearly some gaps in training employees. (The offending employee was just a teen, and clearly is new to the workforce)
(2) can you please stop the spin of the disco ball? Most rinks that have a serious skate culture just light up their disco ball with no spinning. This is because the spin is very disorienting when you're trying to do any advanced tricks. The spinning is a dangerous element to all skaters, new and old. I think you would have fewer crashes and accidents if you stop the spin.
(3) Note to potential visitors: this is def a place where you want to bring your own headphones. The music is the type of thing youd hear at an elementary school assembly to get the children hyped up, which is not necessarily the kinda bpm you can...
ย ย ย Read moreWATCH YOUR DRINKS! I brought my daughter and her best friend on Saturday. I purchased the all day pass for the both of them. After being there from 2 to 6 I do not recommend bringing your young family here for the 6 o'clock session. It got really crowded, lots of very young couples, and groups of rude teenagers. After spending over 70 dollars, which I did not mind paying being that my girls were having fun...btw, I would have spent more if things were handled differently. I decided that I would sit at a table to keep the girls drinks and to refill them for a dollar instead of having to purchase new drinks every time being that you can't take drinks into the skating area, the cups were small but expensive. This group of teens start messing around at the table I'm sitting at and at first I thought nothing of it but then the boy turns and grabs my cup and they start walking off so I stopped him and said that's my cup, he said that it was his cup, I don't know...maybe he really thought it was his, but I doubt it. Instead of saying sorry, I thought it was mine and walking away his girlfriend starts getting very rude and disrespectful with me which ends with a group of 5 teens telling me that I need to shut up and sit down which provoked my daughter to get involved. When I took it to the manager she literally did nothing about it but refill my drink. I got the girls and we left, I no longer felt comfortable being there and I definitely did not feel comfortable letting my girls go back into the arena to skate knowing that group of teens would be in there with them. If you go to the six o'clock session I don't recommend going by yourself. I was planning on having a birthday party for my daughter here in December, but not anymore. Mountain view community center has a skate night one Friday of every month. For 5 dollars they provide the skates, food and drinks for 2 hours...
