Encore Consignment Boutique — Local services in Alexandria

I understand shops in locations like this may get lots of tourists ‘just looking’ but thats no reason to totally ignore your customers. When I walked in, 2 ladies were engaged in conversation and I guessed one was a frequent customer and the other was staff. As their chatter went on, it was clear that they both worked there. Another person entered the store, whom both ladies knew and all three were became engaged in conversation. I roamed the store for nearly 15 minutes and was never spoken to once. There are certainly some beautiful clothing items here and I would have loved to tried some one… but I would have clearly been interrupting the local gossip event that...

I had a genuinely disappointing experience today. As someone new to town who loves consignment shopping, I added Encore Alexandria to my list of stops. At first, I thought I was having a normal shopping experience, trying on clothes, when I overheard an employee and a seemingly regular customer discussing me. They were tracking which dressing room I was using and implying that I was a theft risk.

I was so shaken by the experience that I couldn’t finish trying on the clothes and left the store in tears. It’s unacceptable to treat customers this way simply because they are people of color. I will not return to this location and cannot recommend it to others,...

I absolutely love visiting Encore! They have a beautiful selection of high-end clothing and some of my most treasured pieces are from here. Jen and the entire staff are amazing. I usually come to the store with my 3- and 1-year old (which as you can imagine at a fancy boutique can be risky), and they help to entertain the kids so I can have an enjoyable shopping experience.
