First things first, Get A Reservation. I've never been here and not seen a full house. That goes a long way with a restaurant in my mind, a loyal fan base. The walk up wait was about an hour when we got there. Our wait with reservations was about 10 minutes. The majority of their plates run from $10 for starters up to about $30 at the top of the entrée. They serve whiskey, scotch and beer flights and have a good selection of each coupled with a wide variety of wines. This place is a must if you're in the area. Take your friends, family or just yourself. The bar is nice and the service is very good. They we super busy when we got there but, the servers were attentive and our server Nikki, she was really on it. She knew the menu and was able to make suggestions or explain dishes that we had questions about. Cocktails were served and we received a stardust which is vodka and berries but it wasn't all that refreshing or my favorite drink. Second came the dark and stormy, rum, lime juice and ginger beer. Well crafted and very delicious. Finally was the Moscow mule. Mean and kicking and as good as it could be. For appetizers, we started with the pork sliders which were very good. A nice bite of raw jalapeños in the burger and pickle on top made this a good little starter. As for entrées, the Australian lamb chops, cooked to order and delivered as ordered. They were cooked perfectly and delivered on the flavor. Then we had the fish tacos. So, where to start. They were packed with fish pieces larger than any that Ive ever seen before. However, that does not mean that they were short on flavor. The fish was tender and the sauce was great but, it was almost dumped on at one end while it was just the right amount at the other. Finally, one of the menu items that I struggle to resist, the classic French dip. Served with duck fat fried French fries. This certainly did not disappoint. The au jus was as good as everything else, the duck fat French fries... need I say more. We finished or meal with 2 fabulous desserts, the center cut donuts and the icebox peanut butter pie. The donut centers are a little heavy but, if you don't eat to much before dessert, you should have no problem with these. All I can do to describe these is to say Dunkin Donuts doughnut holes on steroids... They are that good. The peanut butter pie was exactly what you would think. Intense peanut butter and and chocolate flavors but, they served it with a hazelnut ice cream. Thank you to the managers, line and again, our server, Nikki. We loved our meal and the excellent service that seems to be a standard at Virtue. We...
Read moreI have had the opportunity to visit this establishment twice, once for a Friday dinner and more recently, for a Saturday breakfast.
First and foremost, I must acknowledge the staff's excellent energy and professionalism and willingness to see to it that their patrons have a great dining experience. In addition, the establishment decore adds to the dining experience. I scheduled an 8:30 pm reservation on this day and arrived at around 7:15 pm. The receptionist worked to get me a table earlier to free up the reservation, and we had an excellent seat upstairs in the dining room. We ordered the fried Brussels and calamari for starters and ended up getting street tacos for dinner. The descriptions were very appealing, and I went against the waitresses' recommendations, unfortunately. The Brussels were great, and the calamari was tasty while there were a few tough pieces, keeping it far from perfection. I found my shrimp tacos to be rather chewy-tough and would not order it again. However, the great service and signature Old Fashioned that I ordered saved the day, ultimately, and the environment is upbeat, but not agitating.
My next visit was for breakfast. We arrived at about 9:30 am and were seated promptly with a party ahead and another behind us. This time, we sat downstairs near the kitchen in a half booth/table. I could hear the wooden floor boards bending and squeaking overhead which was initially unsettling, but eventually became accostomed. I ordered the country fried steak, and my partner got the breakfast Burrito. The burrito was fabulous with a homemade feel and light seasoning... My country fried steak was a little tough, and the flour gravy was more like a light-sauce, not my preference. The potatoes were exceptional, and I enjoyed the soft yolk egg that was the staple of the salty egg. I would order something different the next time.
The coffee was delicious, and the seasonal beverage, the gingerbread parlor punch, was worth the price. This venue seems to be most consistent when it comes to the drinks while on the pricier side.
I look forward to returning and advise you to do the same. One of the best aspects of the venue is that they offer higher end dishes priced at 30 and above while having dishes in the teens and twenties, so you can mix and match your preferences among food and drinks as it pleases you and...
