This place is a real treat✓✓✓
Google brought me here after I asked Maps to find an ATM here. Both of the other ones I had found were out of service...
Imagine my surprise when I looked up from parking in a conveniently located Handicapped Parking spot. By the way: DV=Disabled Veteran
But I looked up and was immediately transported to the scenic green spaces in San Francisco and then the shoreline of New Port, Rhode Island. Even hints of the Venice Beach flavore d' vita passed by as I found the ATM for my bank very convenient lot located in case people want to give Buskers a tip but don't want to constantly have denominations of the Dollar on their person.
There was a function going on and many people were casually strolling the greens and cobbled stoned streets of Farmers Market and Street Fair.
I thought "this would be a good place for me to play guitar to help pay some bills" or "Busk"
But I am not certain if this town requires a permit, and you'd probably have to learn some local favorites before trying anything of the sort. Though I think some of the Native American Tribesmen of Latin to America who play flute and guitar in the arid South Western states would fair wonderfully with this Patriotic Population.
Really just an overall pleasant experience.
Take Care...
Read moreA good place to visit if you are in Old Town Alexandria - two parks in one This is a park located on the river side of Old Town Alexandria. There are several parking options. There is a set of parking spots along the west side of the park, street parking around the city, and a free lot south at Jone’s Park which is a 10 min walk away. The park is a large open field with a walkway along the water, that heads both north and south. The park connects to King Street Park, another open field park, just to the north of this one. There is an awning-covered seating area with tables on the north side of both parks. There is a walking trail to the north and south along the river with informational signs and displays that describe the sights along the trail. There are several shops and restaurants in Old Town Alexandria just to the west of the field. The field has several large trees and some well-worn grass. There is a large, “I Love You” sign facing the street that offers a good picture option. It seems a hub of activity the times that I have been there and offers a good view of the Potomac River. It is a good place to visit if you are planning to visit Old Town Alexandria and want an easy place to park and enjoy a walk...
Read moreI still feel conflicted about Waterfront Park. While our brothers in Baltimore were fighting the War of 1812, the same one that would inspire our national anthem, the city fathers of Alexandria, right in this park, instead of fighting, handed the keys to city to the British so they wouldn't burn the town to the ground. This single act pemitted the British to penetrate the Colonial curtain of defenses. What an awful betrayal to our nation. On top of which, this area is where the bare feet of thousands of chained slaves were unloaded for the slave marketplaces and would play a central role in the creation of much of the American wealth of the day, particularly Southern wealth.
To the towns credit they have kept this as a park and one of the few places where one can easily approach the water. Alexandria has continued to make this town today a lovely place to visit. History has not forgotten the hardships of the enslaved or the difficulty of the choices that day when Colonial forces faced slaughter. This weekend our British visitors and I are headed onto King Street for an American hamburger and an Irish beer. Come and...
