If I could give 0 stars I would. I contacted the dealership today to inquire about a used 2020 GMC cargo van. I made an afternoon appointment to test drive the vehicle. The dealership was asking 32,000 for this van with 49,000 miles. After driving the vehicle I went to the salesman Patrick that I was dealing with And told him that I would be making an offer but not full price. I offered The dealership$25,000 cash. Patrick the salesman said no way they will do that So I said take it to the manager anyways and let's see what happens. He asked me how I arrived at that price I said that's what I have for a budget and I've seen others for similar price. In his remark was just because that's your budget doesn't mean that's what you're gonna pay in a smart ** way. Patrick took the offer to his manger and it was declined. I said to him what is your offer? He says to me what's yours? I said are you kidding I gave you my offer what's your counter offer? Then he says what's yours again. It's almost like he didn't even know how to negotiate. So I left the dealership and told him to contact me if there was anything else they could do. When I got in the truck I sent him a screenshot for work for a Kelly Blue Book Valuation Private Party excellent condition 49,000 miles. The value was 25,000 to 28,000. In true car salesman fashion he responds with that's just a guide you wouldn't offer a zillow price on a house online would you And then proceeds to tell me he doesn't care how much the truck sells for 'cause he makes the same no matter what.At this point things were cordial I simply responded car dealerships have had the upper hand for several years now the Times have changed and consumers have other choices without having to pay inflated prices . Side note is that the same van was for sale for 42,000 a month or two ago . During the negotiation I said to him this van probably didn't cost 32,000 when it was new in 2020 and he said that doesn't matter it's what it's worth now 'cause there's none available . The next text is heated and he proceeds to tell me that being a plumber I most likely benefited from COVID . That's when I fired back and told him my prices haven't changed in 4 years and it's not likely he can say the same . And don't compare me to car dealerships that have been selling over MSRP for several years . His next response was we never sold a car over MSRP when 10 minutes before that he told me that every car dealership was doing it including them . After another text he decided to call me and that's when things got good . He called me a jerk and that's when I went off . Said to him why don't I come back there and you can call me a jerk to my face . Then he said are you threatening me I said no not at all I just want to be standing in front of you when you call me a jerk . I am just blown away that A car salesman or any other salesman would call and harass a customer that he didn't make a sale too . This guy should probably lose his job but based on his sales tactics I think that he was trained this way and that his boss should probably lose his job. I have purchased over 100 vehicles most of them new in my time as a contractor and never been treated this way. I will try and post screen shots of the texts this guys sent to me. It may be an edit to this review. Stay away from...
Read moreIf I wrote this review Friday, when I first got the car, I would have given them a much better mark. I purchased a 2009 Hummer H3T from them last week to bring back and register in New York State. I made this very clear to them and provided them with all the appropriate documentation. I put down $10,500 on a $26k purchase and financed the rest at a fair rate and fair loan terms. I didn't blink an eye at the $400 documentation fee, because I was pleased that I had managed to sell my previous car for $10,500 just the previous day (They offered me $8,000 on a trade-in, which was a severe lowball offer)
My salesman, Jeff, was very helpful over the phone, but provided me with misinformation regarding the warranty remaining on the vehicle. I will chalk that up as him making an honest mistake, because he based the information on CarFax, but he probably should have cross-referenced this with their own database before giving me the incorrect information.
I was told that the dealership would handle all of my registration requirements, and to bring my old plates. I thought that a bit strange, since they're a Massachusetts dealership, but I assumed this wasn't the first time they had ever sold a vehicle out of state. Massachusetts has a peculiar "grace period" law, which allows you to drive for 7 days with old plates, on a new vehicle. Apparently, no one at Amesbury Chevrolet bothered to research into the fact that New York does not have the same law, so they sent me on my merry way home, in my new truck, with my old plates on it.
If this wasn't bad enough, I called them the following business day to ensure that all of the supplemental registration documentation that they needed from me had been properly received via fax. They confirmed that it had, and would be sent out to the "registration service" on Monday.
It took me SEVEN phone calls to finally be informed as to who this registration service was. Furthermore, I was told that they "have never used this company before" and thus could not provide me any information as to the time frame as to when I will receive my registration. Mind you, I currently have a useless vehicle in my driveway, because I have no way of registering it.
On Monday morning, at 9:30 AM, I called back and asked if it was possible that all of the documents necessary to register the car be overnighted to me instead of the registration service, so that I could register the car myself. I was told that "the documents went out early this morning". In past and future correspondence, I was told that their UPS/FedEx pickup is in the afternoon/evening, therefore I was blatantly lied to.
So at this point, I had gotten the runaround for 4 days, and a useless $26k vehicle for the next week and change. This whole experience has been an exercise in futility, mismanagement, lies, and embarrassing incompetence on the part of...
Read moreMy wife and I have been in the market to purchase a 7-8 passenger SUV. We researched and test drove many SUVs but we yet to check out the Chevy Traverse. We were impressed that Consumer Reports rated the Traverse the number one Large Sport-utility in the Large SUV class. So, we decide to give Chevy a try. Looking online, we found a used 2016 Traverse LTZ. So we decide to visit Amesbury Chevy.
When we walked into the dealership, we were greeted by Will, the Sales Manager. He offered a friendly and warm greeting. We introduced ourselves and began to explain to him that we were interested in seeing the used 2016 Traverse LTZ. He showed us the model but we weren’t really excited for that particular model and it didn’t fit us. With further conversation with Will, I mentioned to him that we really want to purchase a new Traverse because I’m not a big fan of used vehicles. Plus, I told him that we are planning a keeping this vehicle for at least 10 years. So, I’d really prefer new. As the conversation, continued he introduced us to Walt, who became our Sales rep. We shared with Will and Walt what features we wanted in the vehicle. Will checked his inventory and had Walt show us two vehicles, a base model and the a LZ model. The base model didn’t have everything we wanted but the LZ model did. Plus, the LZ model we looked at was a dealership “Bonus “vehicle. Walt, explained that this particular vehicle had extra incentives that helped the cost.
We decided to take it for a test drive. Walt was informative and knew everything about the vehicle. He also explained to us the difference between leasing and purchasing finance options. My wife and I were impressed by the way the Traverse handled. It didn’t feel like a big SUV. We were also impressed how much space and storage the vehicle had. We instantly fell in LOVE with the Traverse. When we returned from the test drive. Will, had already had our trade-in appraised and presented us with a leasing option and a purchase option. With careful deliberation, my wife and I decided to go with the lease/option to buy. Will and his finance team worked really hard trying to get the best possible lease for our budget. We signed the papers and Walt then said that I will be able to pick the car up later that day. I was overwhelmed that they were able to work that quickly. I can’t express my thanks to Will and Walt for making our car buying experience awesome. I was very comfortable and never felt pressured. They were accommodating to us and they listened to our needs. It was very refreshing since we have visited a lot of other dealerships and have not received the same experience. I would definitely recommend Amesbury Chevrolet to anyone who is looking to purchase their next vehicle.
