I’ve been a loyal Stop & Shop customer for years and usually have pleasant experiences — especially with the kind ladies at customer service. However, my visit today left me feeling humiliated and discriminated against.
Occasionally, Stop & Shop runs promotions on Visa or Mastercard gift cards that allow customers to earn reward points. The store has policy of buying gift card with a $2,000 per-person-per-day limit. I fully respect this rule. Today, my mother and I — who live in different households — each planned to purchase $1,500 in gift cards, well within the policy limit. We also used our own separate credit cards for the purchases.
After I completed my transaction, the store manager, Matt Provost, refused to let my mother buy hers. He claimed that because we came to the store together, we should be treated as one person under the limit — even though there is no written policy supporting that. When I asked to see the policy, he couldn’t provide one.
To prevent any misunderstanding or concern about fraud, I offered to show our IDs to confirm that we were each using our own credit cards, but he still refused. Instead, he implied that we might be engaging in money laundering, which was completely baseless, offensive, and discriminatory.
When I questioned his decision, he said he could “refuse service to anyone without giving a reason.” Even if that’s technically true, this is not how a professional manager should treat customers who are following store policy.
As an immigrant and a veteran, I was deeply hurt by this treatment. I left the store feeling disrespected and unfairly targeted. I hope Stop & Shop management investigates this incident seriously and ensures that all customers are treated fairly and...
Read moreI had the worst costumer service in my entire life, Went to get a Western Union international transfer at this Stop and Shop (simple task) And not only got denied also got asked to leave, the word for this situation is chocking, at first I asked what was wrong with the request but only got an attitude from Christine front desk also was asked to leave, (She said she wasn't familiar with the proceeds) which sounds like she didn't know how to do her job. Got managers called in, they're also helpless to manage their employee, unprofessional, unpolite, incompetent and ignorant. I never really cared about price or how clean the store is, but for a paying customer been treated like that? I wouldn't write a review if wasn't a good person and let you know avoid this place at all costs, they're very unhelpful. Wish for this place to training emotionally intelligent employees. Went to another location and got my transfer done...
Read morePlease let me begin by saying, I worked in the service industry as a bartender for 15 years. So when I take the time to write a review it is 9/10 times a glowing one. However this time, not so much. The Andover Stop and Shop is where my family and I do our shopping. Usually on a different day of the week, but same time frame and location. I visited last night to get some shopping done before the “huge snowstorm” and to my shock and horror the deli was closed. (I walked into the store at 5:45pm) I have begun to notice over the past several months this is somewhat of a constant occurrence. Do all stop and shop delis close by 5:45/6:00pm? Or is it only the Andover location? I do understand there are supply issues and it is hard to get product let alone keep in the store. But, every single weeknight? For months on end? It’s extremely inconvenient and leaves me unable to make my kids a half...
