Update#2: While I'm still extremely disappointed with the change, we've been coming back as they sneak in some of the old menu items. My wife was extremely excited to get the Datils on our last visit as those are her absolute favorites. If they have the pistachio cake when you visit, I highly recommend trying it. Just as good as the tres leche.
Update: Wow, what happened!? I had to change my rating because they completely changed this restaurant. What was once a delectable treasure is now nothing more than your average bar. Food is now the same ol' tired bar food. Tater tots!? Really? How disappointing. Why you would turn an amazing restaurant with an amazing menu and atmosphere into a bland, dark, run of the mill, dime a dozen, restaurant is beyond me. I used to come here for all my special occasions. Wife and I recently showed up for our Anniversary nice and dressed only to walk into this Ansonia street bar. So disappointing. Nothing special to see here now. Just overpriced bar food. 😥
Sweet surprise! You would not expect to find a restaurant such as Crave in the Valley and my wife and I were pleasantly surprised when we just decided to stop and check it out. Reminds me of dining in Miami. Clean restaurant, excellent food, and service is for the most part superb (depending on which server you get). I recommend the Datils (Out of this world), the Costillas Cortas (melt in your mouth), and a piece of Tres Leches cake to finish things off (a little bit of heaven). Definitely our new...
Read moreThis unique eatery features Latin inspired dishes with their own twist. While some traditional dishes remain faithful to their origins, others bring a fresh take on the old staples of Latin cuisine. The decor blends what appears to be the traditional 19th century brick from the buildings origins and a contemporary vibe infused with the cheerful colors that lesson America is known for. Overall it is warm, inviting, and spacious. The seats were comfortable and I had no problems sitting there for an extended period of time.
During this particular visit I ordered the Meat Lovers Paella for one. This dish had chicken and chorizo topped with hanger steak. At first glance this meal appeared on the small side, however looks can be deceiving. The menu warns that this meal takes 30 minutes to prepare so, I ordered it when the rest of my party was ordering drinks. My meal came out with the appetizers, as I began to work through the chorizo I realized the skillet the held my food was deceptive and there was a lot more there than I thought, which made me happy because I only eat two meals a day, generous portions are appreciated. The hanger steak is in my top three best hanger streaks I have ever eaten. Medium rare to perfection, warm and pink on the inside with a beautiful char on the outside and with a hint of smokey flavor. The chorizo was flavorful and enjoyable to the last bite.
I had a great experience and wonderful time. The staff was friendly and the bathroom was clean, who could...
Read moreCrave was the first restaurant I discovered in Ansonia over 10 years ago. It was a beautiful, unexpected surprise on Main Street. And remains so to this day.
The food at Crave is and has always been delicious! Eating my way around the menu sections, has been a wonderful journey over the years. And most recently, I came back for one of my absolutely favorite appetizers and dishes.
The fried calamari, lightly battered and crisp on the outside is succulent as well as flavorful and the hot peppers were a perfect accompaniment. The Pastelone de Vegetales is Scrumptious‼️If you love vegetables, then try this dish which also includes sweet potato, is layered with goat cheese and finished with a red pepper sauce. WHAT A COMBO‼️ Although listed as an appetizer, I always request a dinner sized portion. My one regret is that they ran out of pineapple upside down cake. So for dessert, we were forced to try the chocolate infused cheesecake. My mouth is watering just writing this review‼️😋
The servers are professional, polite and willing to go above and beyond. Libby, thank you for creating such a wonderful epicurean adventure 🙏🏾💖‼️ Crave is now the Uptown Bar & Eatery and I am saddened that I can no longer get my favorite appetizers and entrees. I don't like the new menu and, sad to say, it is not the destination spot that...
