The morning after we made an appointment for the installation of replacements for two deteriorating eave-mount outdoor lights for which I was unable to access the electrical boxes, AstroWatt called to see whether we wanted to move our appointment up two days due to a cancellation. Of course we did. Then Chris Crammer (our technician) called to say that he was on his way and asked if he could bring me anything from Starbucks. When he arrived, before he began the job he inspected both the inside and outside circuit panels to make sure there were no potential issues. I showed him the existing fixtures and gave him the lights I had purchased to replace them. Chris thoroughly examined the locations and prepared an estimate, which I accepted. He then went to work and replaced the old fixtures with the new ones. I saw the work that he had done, and it was very professional, blending seamlessly into the structure. But when everything was hooked up and the switch was thrown, only one of the two new lights illuminated. This is the kind of thing that drives me crazy, but Chris was very chill. He removed the new fixture so that he could check the line be sure it was delivering power correctly (it was), and then told me the new fixture was probably defective. I told him no problem, that I would take it back to Home Depot to get a replacement. He then asked whether I would like for him to remain at my home until I got back so that he could finish the installation. I told him he didn’t have to do that, that I could easily do that myself because he already done the hard part. (As it happens, when I returned with the “new” new fixture, it took me about two minutes to attach the wires and determine that it now worked perfectly.) In sum, Chris was both a highly competent electrician and a really good guy. He guarantees his work for 5 years and told me that if the new lights fail during that period, even though I did not purchase them from him, he would install whatever replacements I purchased at no charge.    Read moreColby Humphries was incredible along with Tom the guy at the office. I called for several issues and Tom schedule service the next day! Colby was our amazing serviceman today. He assess our whole system and found several poor original wiring issues which were causes surges in interior lt sockets, microwave and poo lt bulbs just purchased days ago. So my breaker box got a reno and socket, outlets rewired properly and surge system added now!!! Amazing that some contractors make serious errors to save time but 10 years down the road, my system was initially wired with impact guns and not using the best technique to wire outlets. I know most folls don't stay in in a spec house very long but to me the initial should be done coring correctly or in the best fashion.................Cutting corners for more profit can cause the owner to pay for expensive repairs that should not cause problems for 20-30 years, like your breaker box. I am so very grateful with the staff and amazing craftsman that work for AstroWatt!!! Superb customer service!!! Thank you guys!!
Day #2 1/2 bath fan replacement due to blown socket from surge etc. Grant Hazard and added technician, came to replace the Panasonic whisper fan, I purchased yesterday which needed replacing. The guys ( Team 2)spent yesterday assisting Colby, in finishing his work day due to time. So, team 2 returned to install the fan, once I purchased one. Grant and partner did a great job explaining everything and even needed more wiring due to the prior wiring was left too short to wire in the new fan in properly, so they did a great job explaining everything. I asked about the slow start up for the Panasonic fan and was advised since it is very quiet, I don't hear it until the fan is in full motion. My bad, since I am hearing impaired and team 2 reassured me about the fan install was working fine!!! Thanks again for a great service and even brought me Starbucks to start my morning!! From last Saturday, when we lost power due to a tree branch falling on our power line, everyone at AstroWatt has been amazing. First, Tom, one of the owners, called us back on Saturday evening (when he should have been out dancing!) and talked us through what we'd need, and set up an appointment for first thing Monday morning, even though they were booked solid.
Then, Chris, wonderful Chris (who plays guitar, likes tacos--which we know because AstroWatt sends out a picture and bio to customers for their technicians as they're heading over to your house), contacted us Monday morning and offered to pick up something for us from Starbucks on his way--an offer we gratefully accepted. And that was just the beginning of Chris's fabulousness! He talked us through everything we needed repaired to pass inspection and get our power back on, gave us options, and approached everything he did with an eye to doing it in the safest and most elegant way possible, including dealing with Duke Energy and arranging the inspection. Honestly, he's given new life to our almost-100-year-old-house, and we feel safer than we have in years. And he was such a delight to be with, too!
Ken, who worked with Chris, was also wonderful: friendly, kind and fun. Chris and Ken left the house spotless, and we now have two gorgeous new electrical boxes (one inside and one outside) with room to expand--maybe even charge a future electric car.
And finally (though only for the moment, as we'll be hiring AstroWatt again to do more work very soon and know we'll meet more people) Nathan, the technician coordinator, wrote a delightful note to us this morning about our final inspection, breaking the news--with grace, humor and wit--that one of us would have to be here all day for whenever the inspector came.
