This place has always hands down been a 5 star for beer and service. My husband and I go there all the time and follow this place on facebook. However, we had a VERY hurtful experience today from the owner in two parts: IN THE STORE and ON THE PHONE
My husband and I sent my dad in to go pick up Wicked Weed for us and we requested doubles on a couple bottles (my husband and I are from Colorado but currently living in Seattle for 10 more months). Things were fine until he went to check out and the owner at the other register said he could only have one each (it never said limit one to begin with). My dad (not knowing much about beer or how limits worked) asked if he could come back later or send my sister in for one. The owners response was "WE DON'T LIKE HOARDERS". A sales lady happened to be in the store and chuckled at the comment. Although I wasn't there, I was ABSOLUTELY CRUSHED by the comment he made. My husband and I want nothing but to be respectful. We had never come across the limits like that in the past (although it is entirely understandable and justified) but maybe we hadn't come across that exact situation yet. Wicked Weed doesn't make it out to Washington so my Husband and I like to share what we have with others (through bottle share get togethers) and give them a chance to try.
After hearing what happened, I wanted to call the owner just to let him know how much it hurt to hear that. I don't know if he was just having a bad day but he was very 'stand-offish' with me. I told him that it was INCREDIBLY hurtful to have him call us "HOARDERS". He replied that he didn't call us hoarders, they just don't like hoarders. I told him again that I understand not liking hoarders but for that to be the first comment he made after my dad asked if he could send my sister over was not necessary and very hurtful. He said "YOU NEED TO PUT YOURSELF IN MY SHOES" to which I said I understood but he needed to put himself in our shoes as well, ESPECIALLY to someone who doesn't know much about beer let alone which ones are rare. I then told him that the way we perceived his comment was different than the way he probably intended to which he replied "WELL I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO TELL YOU". He said this a couple times throughout the rest of the conversation. He then tried to explain how it's always been a one only rule and how hard it is to patrol people in the store and make sure they don't take more than one. I tried to tell him multiple times that it never said anything about limit one nor did my dad know.
This entire situation has nothing to do with them only limiting one. I completely understand and am in full support of it! It's entirely about customer service and treating others with respect. I called him right away because I didn't want things to be misunderstood and to let him know how we felt. I got off the phone just as hurt as before I called. I can't even say I am mad or flustered. I am entirely HURT and DISAPPOINTED in how he handled himself.
My husband and I LOVE this place and the staff with it. It makes it hard to give service to a place that is disrespectful to its loyal customers....
Read more4 stars for their knowledge. Deduct 2 for their business practices. They’ve always been my go-to place when I’m in a hurry, and looking for the “good stuff”. After today, I’ll plan ahead, and drive the distance to Applejack's or Molly's. I stopped in for two bottles of Veuve. The refrigerator and shelf both said $56.99. Each bottle rang up at $59.99. When I questioned the difference, the clerk and I went to the shelves, to check. When he saw the prices, ($56.99) he pulled the tags, and said that someone just didn’t change the tags with the new shipment. We went back to the front, where he placed my charge ticket and a pen on the counter – charging the higher price. I asked if he was going to change it to $56.99, and he said, “Nah…It rang up at the new price.” I don’t think that’s even legal! In hindsight, I should have refused the purchase, and walked out. I WON'T be...
Read moreMy favorite and honestly the only place I buy quality craft beer. From the exclusive launches (like Lyric- thanks for this!! Please continue), to the wonderful staff who remember their customers… we are lucky to have this business in our community and I will proudly continue to support them with my business.
For a great example of how wonderful these people are- I walked in on a random Tuesday after work hoping to buy a 4 pack of whatever beer to help get me through the upcoming week. The staff recognized me, already knew/remembered what I like, and shared they had a special 4 pack in the back from a specific brewery they remembered that I love. Of course I bought it!! These people are spot on and I’m proud to give them my...
