Called to have my car towed to a mechanic. They were there in 10 mins. Guy talked me into having the work done at their shop even though I was planning to take it to one that was highly recommended.
I didn't hear from them for 2 weeks, the guy said my number didn't work but they called me to authorize the work on the new clutch so I had a hard time buying his story. Then after 2 weeks when I called they told me the car "just got it off the lift" but when I arrived my car was covered in dirt and pollen like it had been done and sitting outside for a while and they hadn't called me.
When I got the bill I noticed they ordered and installed a new axle without calling me for authorization! In the moment I was pretty angry and argued with the owner. He agreed to deduct the price of the labor to install it and they also waived the towing fee.
When I saw the axle it was in terrible shape and definitely needed to be replaced. I don't know if they stripped it or if it was stripped before but I'm operating under the assumption it was stripped by the last shop that worked on my rotors.
Other than the poor communication I felt that he made it right with me and we came to an agreement. The price for labor and parts was fair. $650 for a new clutch install isn't that bad IMO.
After driving it the wheel made a squeezing g and I took it back and they told me it was the wheel bearing which wasn't making the noise before they took my wheels off. They refused to fix it even though they most likely damaged it. The owner then threatened me with violence if I didn't leave....
Read moreI live about 45 minutes away from Asheville but was in the area visiting a family member in the hospital. My car started acting up, so I pulled over to restart it. That's when it would not crank back when I called Rice's towing the guy told me it would be an hour to get towed. He was there in less than an hour. I had planned on going to Advanced Auto Parts to get a new battery because I had an alternator put in the day before and I thought the old one might have killed the battery. The guy that towed me recommended that I get towed to their shop that was right near Advanced Auto so that they could help me out. I agreed, and I'm glad that I did, turned out that the alternator wasn't installed entirely correctly and had shorted out! Luckily I have a lifetime warranty on the alternator that I purchased, so Autozone delivered a replacement and a very nice gentleman at Rice's installed it for me. I truly appreciated all these guys work to help me get on the road again and back home! It was a very rough day, and they made it so much better. I highly recommend them and will most definitely go there again if I find myself stuck in Asheville again! Thanks so much to all the guys at Rice's you guys were...
Read moreTim at Rice's towing was awesome! I was on the side of 240 with a seized caliper and called him up for a tow after the first place I tried did not pick up. He said he could be there in 45 minutes and then he showed up in 30 - when does that ever happen?
He was also super nice. He didn't treat me any differently despite having out of state tags and the rate he charged was extremely reasonable. I've paid 2.5x that amount before for much slower and less friendly service.
He gave me a ride to the shop and was an easy going conversationalist. I learned on the way that Rice's is a family business that's been around since 1944, which I think is both cool and impressive.
I've never had a positive experience getting a tow before and so I was pretty shocked at how smoothly everything went and what a decent mood I was in after leaving the shop. 10/10 would recommend their towing service to anyone in AVL. I'm actually thankful that the first company didn't pick...
