This shopping center used to be very good about keeping cars from idling in the fire lane. Aspen Hill Shopping Center no longer cares about the fire lane, so people use this "absolutely no parking or standing" area as curbside parking and standing, usually blocking handicapped access points.
So after having to unload an ACTUAL handicapped man across 10 feet of asphalt (we were blocked from pulling up to the curb), then up and over a high curb while two twenty-something snots just sat there watching, blocking a handicapped access point mindlessly, I will no longer patronize the businesses at this shopping center until they resume policing the fire lane to keep it clear.
On the other end of this center, walking from the parking area to Giant Food is like playing Frogger for real. The cars enter the parking lot from Aspen Hill Rd going top speed, then smash the brakes as soon as they're 10 feet in, as there's a constant crossing of people across that spot. It's very unsafe, especially for handicapped and older individuals.
I think of this shopping center as simply not handicapped accessible, or at least not handicap friendly and avoid it...
Read moreThis another is Shopping Plaza that is based on a Giant Food and a CVS. Here is a very nice Shopping Plaza, not a mall, that has filled in what were blank spaces including what was a lovely small movie theater with delicious restaurants and chain restaurants (delicious ? you decide). I like Wingstop and sometimes a McDouble which is free standing. There's plenty of parking and handicap spaces are available. There's also a good chain Mexican place.
I want to make special note of Silver Fountain Restaurant which is well known for its dim sum. The carts pushed around with Dim Sum on Saturday and Sundays. The dim sum may be a highlight but the food and the lunch buffets during the week are excellent. So if you want to order and your friend wants the buffet you're all set. By the way there's a lot of gas stations around this Shopping Center some are what I call no-names. Companies you never heard of or thought about but apparently have gas stations and they're very reasonable making the lead stations like Esso or Gulf, which actually are not the names of stations near there, keep...
