Pho An & Grill — Restaurant in Aspen Hill

Some tough reviews this business has going for them. I thought the restaurant was nice and straight forward, just order, get served, eat, and go home~

Maybe the previous reviews hit a nerve with them, becuase I saw zero issues with anything. The restaurant was clean for a small family business, extremely bare bones, nothing fancy. The service was fine, and the food was good.

Pho Tai (Round Eye Beef Thinly Sliced): ［Small Bowl］The portiin was still a lot and satisfied me. The beef was Beautifully thinly sliced! I mean, like its supposed to be! Good quality beef. The beef broth for the pho was good, a bit on the strange (not in a bad way) aroma as I think they are using more spices or enhancements to give off an aroma, hard to explain, but the broth tasted fine. Be sure to add them veggies in it. It balances out the broth, absolutely necessary if you want to get most out of the Pho.

My family and I went in for our lunch (before covid), we all look at the menu, decided to order pho while my mom order something eles. The lady (who happens to be the owner of her restaurant) took our order (basically) and my mom wanted to order bánh xèo for lunch.

(Noted my family can speak another language other than English.) The lady said "can you choose a different dish?" in vietnamese. My mom said "so?, I can wait." The lady argues back my mom infront of us with her attitude "it will take a longer time to cook. Can you please have something eles other than bánh xèo?". My mom commented back to her "then why do you have bánh xèo on the menu and you refuse to take my order? Remove bánh xèo off the menu!". My mom was force to order something eles and WILL NOT give her a tip due to the owner for refusing to serve bánh xèo. If you order bánh xèo, she will make you to order something eles or leave and...

I've been going here for years, the new management seems to be making a lot of improvements. It doesn't feel as authentic as other pho places, the atmosphere is a bit more modern. The visual upgrades and cleanliness are appreciated, the consistency of the beef broth is the most important thing to me. It was good during the first bit of the transition to new management but now the flavor is MSG is very present. Not sure if they're trying to save money on using more concentrated beef broth stock or what but it doesn't have the depth it once had. If you can look past that then great but it's definitely a different kind of flavor profile than what I'm used to getting here. Also the bubbles aren't the same anymore they're more rubbery clear ones that don't taste as good as...
