Shift + Wheeler — Local services in Astoria

I've been visiting Astoria for a few years but have never caught this store open due to my own timing. I finally was in the area and made my way in. I have always loved the displays promoting inclusion and handmade goods. However, I was very disappointed by no greeting as two ladies looked at me and continued to talk, making me feel as if I was an inconvenience. Even after one lady walked away, the remaining wouldn't even acknowledge me and I was about five feet away from me. I'm not sure if I was judged upon entry or just not deemed worthy of their time but I feel a store with this window display should be way more friendly. I may not look like an ally or dress in rainbows, but I have a huge love for all humans and proudly voice that stance. It takes a lot for me to leave a review with such a negative tone, but I do feel it's important they know how unwelcome my visit was. Despite that feeling, the store did have amazing goods, beautiful handmade bags, apparel and gifts. I have a huge love of bags and handmade crafts but couldn't justify spending my money in a store that wouldn't greet or acknowledge me from the moment I entered to the time I left. As co-owner of our small family business, I appreciate a well-run business with quality products. Shift/Wheeler is a beautiful company in all respects. They’re beautiful humans with a passion (and talent!) for what they make. They make clothing and accessories for everyone, which is not something many (most?) clothing companies can say and their stories/messaging is just so wonderful and I always look forward to their posts (follow them on Instagram! 🥰). I have a Shift Wheeler jumper and just LOVE it! It’s soft, comfy and versatile and the best part is the well-sized pockets. I love being able to easily stow my phone, wallet and whatever other small objects I’m carting around that day and it somehow doesn’t even change the profile of the dress. Worth every penny and I can’t wait...

Between my husband and I, we've purchased clothing and a canvas tote - it's all been made with the utmost attention to detail and the purchasing process, including custom details on both clothing and tote, were handled with good cheer and smiles. I absolutely love my black dress and my white linen shirt - they're both incredibly comfortable and easy to wash. The canvas tote is perfect in size and is so far weathering very well - I expect we'll be using it for years to come. I can't speak highly enough of Shift + Wheeler. They're...
