WARNING: If you are a minority, especially one of Hispanic descent (like myself), I do not recommend shopping at this place!
I went in (it was around my third time shopping there) to find a cute little antique bottle for a crafts project for a gift, and decided to look around the store to see what was there. They do have nice quality items there, but I kept noticing someone, who turned out to be a both owner/renter there, kept looking at me and not removing his gaze from me or my direct. When I would look at him he just gave me a very fake smirkish smile. At one point I turned around surprised to see he was literally right behind me, he looked at me and smiled, THEN proceeded to pass me. Apparently he had been following me since the other end of the store that time.
Anyway, the really messed up part came when I finally found what I wanted. There was a small basket in one of the enclosed booths with bottles like the one I was after. I took a moment to look though them, picked two, and brought them up to the front counter. I asked the advice of one of the two women there at the time (the craft project gift was for a female friend), and after making my selection offered to return the bottle back myself since she might not know which booth it belonged to (my mother raised me well). When I returned to the booth guess who I found there going through the very basket of tiny bottles I had just pulled two from? He was clearly surprised when he saw me, tried to say something, but then just smiled again at me walked away without actually saying anything.
And it just got worse folks!
I then left for about a half-hour to eat something nearby since I felt calming down was the best idea. I returned, spoke with the management, who once I started telling the story of what happened looked at me with a look of "I can not believe you are bothering me with this. Get the (beep) out of my store.". He then gave me an obviously "I am sorry you felt that way..." based on his voice tone, and I proceeded to just leave.
AND it gets better still! As I was leaving the store biting my tongue I heard a very loud female laughter start when the door had almost finished shutting behind me. I guess she thought I was out of hearing range by them???
Summary: I was racially profiled. Followed around the store. The manager looked pissed I was complaining about the incident. A female employ behind the counter started laughing out loud about the incident when she thought I was out of hearing range when the door was almost shut behind me. I do not recommend buying here, or even walking around in here, if you are a minority like myself.
P.S. Look at their past feedback on Google to see a review only a year old saying the Manager (Maybe also owner?) Randy told a man and his AFRICAN-AMERICAN WIFE that the items he came to see and assess AT THEIR HOUSE was not something he wanted at his store because it was "liked by the...
Read moreFirst, this is one of the loveliest stores I've visited in a long while. With what seems like MILESSSS, of interesting and fascinating items to chose from.
Antique and vintage jewelry is one of my passions. I spent many years digging through my grandmothers vintage jewelry, clothing, shoes, and handbags; and I have been left with a love of all things sparkly. There are literally thousands of sparkly things to pick from in the Nouveau Boutique cases. It's like my eyes are going to pop right out of my head!
The clothing and accessories in the store are extraordinary! I absolutely love all the options. Brand new to vintage to designer. FABULOUS designers they have. Hermes scarves and Chanel purses at affordable prices! Stunning Southwestern jewelry and linen clothing for classic comfort. Whether you are a child or a child at heart, this store has you covered. Elegant home decor, crystal chandeliers, midcentury modern, true museum quality rugs and art, elegant European choices abound. There truly is something for every taste imaginable. The most incredible home decor options around. From the funky to the formal, and everything in-between. I can't say enough good things about the selection that awaits every customer in this store.
Each and every visit I've had, has been a joyous one. I'm not the wealthiest girl in the world, and I'm covered in tattoos, so there is plenty of reason to look sideways at me; but that has not been my experience. The store managers always greet me with a smile and a warm "hello". There is a crazy little French woman that I love, she's so clever! And, just so many NICE people, who make me laugh and are a true pleasure to be in the company of. Watch out for that crazy Ken at the front desk! He will have you crying with laughter. And, Precious the sweet dog has everybody's heart the moment you meet her.
All and all I encourage everyone to visit this gem of a store. I think you will be glad you did. I am a magnet, and Antiques & Beyond is steel!!!!
Another thing, I was recently in there around lunch a few weeks ago. One of the ladies who works behind the counter had brought in deviled eggs. I commented on how much I enjoy deviled eggs. Even though these eggs were intended to be the lunch on the employees, they insisted that I have some as well. This is not the action of inherently rude people. This is how hospitable people behave with one another.
If you check back regularly there are several, special dealers who bring the most extraordinary treasures. I can spend hours and hours, just looking around in their booths. I wish I lived closer to the store. Alas, I am only able to visit when I am driving through Atlanta, and have time to spend. I go on the Google and look them up often. And Instagram. Soooooooo pretty, and such...
Read moreAbsolutely not! This isn't your average antique store or mall. Consider this place a high end store with antiques and other fancy ugly stuff. Trust me, I visit enough antique stores to know that particular vintage glass pieces should not be $1,000K+. This stuff is used and should be priced as so. Tell me why, I spotted a rattan shelf that was literally $1,195 and it was small too.
However, I was shopping at an antique mall in NC and found an even bigger rattan shelf selling for $195. Now, that's a steal. The dealers are obviously money-hungry and do not know what they are selling. They are price gouging because they think they need to.
I spotted vintage glass that were from Fenton, Indiana Glass, Murano and a few vaseline glass pieces that were being sold for a crazy amount of money. Why?! You can find the same exact piece elsewhere for much less.
I know about vintage glass and I go antiquing very frequently. I particularly visited this location looking for the Westmoreland Sitting Bird Candy dish in a frost green to add to my collection. However, I did not find it and the staff did not appear interested in helping me either.
The staff can be described as not very friendly, will not greet you, and will treat you differently if you don't look like a rich snob. Upon walking in, I noticed one of the vendors running away to hide that was very weird. I will not be returning. This one will be added to the worst antique stores list.
And by the way, if staff will treat an out of towner like this. Just imagine how they are treating the locals. I felt like I was back in Austin,...
