Keenan Salon — Local services in Atlanta

I wanted to wait to write a review on Keenan Salon and my stylist Kat until I had a chance to live in my hair for awhile and see if I really liked it. I can honestly say after having it cut, colored and styled 8 weeks ago I love it more and more everyday.

On my very first visit I met Keenan and Kat. Both were welcoming and treated me more like a friend visiting rather than a new client. Kat was finishing up her dinner (I was early) so Keenan came over and just chatted with me for a bit. Asked me how I found out about them etc. TikTok videos had been popping up on my feed for awhile. I must have watched 100 times before pulling the trigger and booking the consultation.

I went to fill out the forms and got to the part where it asked for a photo and was like nope. A week later I was back on the forms and submitting the picture. My hair was very long and thin. It hadn’t been cut or styled in over a year. It was at point where all I did was really put it in a bun to keep it out of the way. My hair used to be so thick that I had a hard time putting it in ponytails. Over the last 10 yrs I have been battling with it thinning drastically and what I had done in the past for color, style etc was not working anymore.

I shared these concerns with Kat and told her I don’t know what to do anymore but I know I need to cut it. I need to get it under control and manageable. She walked me through step by step with choosing a color, choosing a length to cut my hair to, even went though options of pulling into a ponytail at different heights on my head. High, middle and low.

She didn’t rush through any of the appointment and took the time to listen to me and what I wanted. Which is hard when you don’t know what you really want. With Kats guidance we were able to figure out what we called a starting point. Meaning we would start there and adjust anything I didn’t like as we went. She cut a lot of hair off, checked the length several times. Got my color just right, and kept the conversation going the whole time.

When I walked into Keenan Salon I dreaded my hair. Tied in a bun on my head 99% of the time because I didn’t like it. When I left I had a whole new outlook on my hair. I fell in love with my hair again. I no longer keep it pulled back all the time. I do more than just wash, dry, and brush it now. I actually enjoy playing with it and seeing what styles I can do.

I just went to my second appointment with Kat and I can honestly say….. I am so appreciative to Kat for helping me love...

This review is two parts.

Part one: The Salon

Keenan Salon is in an easy to navigate area just off BuHi and Cheshire Bridge. It has ample parking. The salon front is welcoming and it is obviously an inclusive place, which is amazing to see. I love the pride flags having immediate visibility. I care deeply about using my money at inclusive places. Inside the salon is lovely! There are little ivy strands surrounding the area and even a little swing! It makes you feel like you’re in a magical fairy garden. Honorable mention: the bathroom has the perfect mix of fairy garden meets 70s disco aesthetic(I’m lookin at you, “please don’t do coke in the bathroom” sign 😂). Super fun. The staff are all amazing from what I can tell. We were greeted immediately upon arriving(by the owner) and they got us to our stylist quickly. The stylists and other employees were all upbeat and their clients were all smiling and enjoying the chats they were having. It definitely lives up to the charming, inclusive, and welcoming place that Keenan has aimed for.

Part two: Our Service Experience

We saw Stevie for a keratin treatment and cut. We were there for just over 2 hours. Stevie is AMAZING at what she does behind the chair. She has helped my daughter pick styles in each stage of her teen years and has NEVER failed to deliver the right cut. My daughter has asked for everything from vivids and side shaves to more toned down looks that are more “standard”. I am sure you all know teens style can change drastically. But Stevie has had the right answer for each cut. Even when my daughter could barely explain how she wanted it, Stevie would pull the look together and it looked great. Today was no different. She talked to my daughter about what she wanted, made the plan, and executed it perfectly(faster than expected). She did all of this while expertly navigating her ACTUAL job with listening to my 6 year old son rattle off every fact he knows about video games😂. Truly, if you get services with Stevie, you will see why we drove an hour to make sure she is who we saw. She has never disappointed us.

I had the best experience at this salon! First-the salon it’s self is a very happy place-you feel it when you walk in! Happy colors and friendly faces!

Second, Ms Kat is a rock star! I have THICK wavy/curly hair and wanted a precision cut bob-she NAILED it! I walked out with the best hair cut I’ve had ever! Kat listened to me, took her time, and even showed me how to blow dry and curl my hair so that I would be successful at home styling my new haircut!

Oh-and the scalp massage was amazing! Kat is a gem! I’ve already booked my next hair cut apt with her!

If you are looking for a new Salon, look no further-this plaice is heaven and the staff are wonderful!

UPDATE:

I took my 4 year old twins to get hair cuts with Kat. Both boys have sensory issues (so I have been cutting their hair at home-yikes!) Kat was amazing with my boys. One has curly and one has straight hair-she was an expert with both. She treated my boys with such kindness and care. I actually teared up during one of the cuts because the boys were having a great time! I was so anxious to take them-I should have known Kat would be amazing as usual!

Keenan and the entire team were just so wonderful and went above and beyond, they offered the boys snacks and let them sit in ALL the chairs, and play. We have found our place! It’s just so inclusive and safe.

Kat had time to give my husband a cut and eyebrow wax. I mean what Can’t this lady do?! We are forever customers!!! If you are on the fence, don’t be. Just book. You will NOT regret it!

This is just my favorite salon. I have such a great time every time! It’s comfortable and relaxing! I got a cut and balayage. I am very specific about my color AND the placement (I mean most of us are) and Kat nailed it! This gal is so talented-she can do it all. Just book-you...
