Fly Hifi Stereo — Local services in Auburn

Can't say enough good things about Steve and Fly Hi-Fi. I bought a Pioneer SX-1250 from Steve and had such a great experience that I also ended up going back and buying the Klipsch Chorus II speakers he used to demo the receiver!

Steve is a wealth of knowledge about vintage gear and has always been super responsive when I've had questions. He's practical in his advice and never salesy—which I greatly appreciate.

Whenever I pass through Auburn, I try to stop by, say hi, and see what Steve's got in the store. There's always something new. Plus, my wife loves the little shops around Fly, so I get to nerd out without feeling like she's bored to tears (which I would be if I was her). Bonus!

I now have my dream setup largely because of Steve and Fly Hi-Fi. Highly recommend stopping by and seeing him if you can. I'd give 10...

Steve's shop, Fly HiFi, is all that you would want in a stereo shop of old, back in the days when selection and service defined you in a vast landscape of competition.

Large selection of 70's gear and great sevice, sprinkled in with some new gear that matches the old school vibe perfectly (I want those Wharfedale 85th Anniversary speakers wedged in between all the vintage AR's, Advents, Pioneer..., sublime sound).

Do yourself a favor, drop in and check out his shop. Buy gear, and if you are like me, send him a note asking about your hard to find items like for me was a Shure V15 iii cart that he had happen to have a stash of. You will be glad that you did.

I can appreciate a shop like this having been in some of the higher-end shops even in Berkeley when I was at University but that was in the 80s. Now retired in my 60s I can appreciate that good quality audio is coming back strong and people now respect older technology as some of the best sounding. They have some real Bargains in there and compared to even shopping on a Craigslist being able to listen to excellent sound sources that they have in the shop and being able to really give you a speaker demo is quite amazing. You don't have to be an audio file to appreciate the quality that they have at some of these bargain prices I totally recommend going up there and just checking them out.
